History

Original

The Apes were a species that originated from a race of simians who evolved into a more human-like state with increased intelligence.

Around this time, a plague emerged that ravaged the planet in months that was responsible for killing thousands of dogs and cats, while others were killed to prevent infection, Humanity was left without their favorite pets. At first, monkeys came to take their place then gradually apes, who progressed from companions to household helpers to a state of slavery.

As apes learned to talk, a cerebral laziness took hold of the humans. Apes gradually took over human homes, driving the humans into camps outside of the cities. In the final memory, apes attacked the last human camp, carrying only whips.

Reboot

By 2029, humans maintained apes as test pilots and subjects on-board ships such as the Oberon. The United States Air Force space station attempted to rescue one of its pilots namely Captain Leo Davidson. This led to it losing control and crashing on a habitable world devoid of life. In time, one of the Ape test subjects named Semos staged an uprising against the humans ultimately killing many of them. The apes then left the wreckage of the station and came to colonise the world. In time, their intelligence began to grow whilst any human survivors had their intelligence drop down to primitive levels. Thus, the world's dominant species became the apes who developed a more human-sized form. Knowledge of their true origins was hidden with the apes revering Semos who was regarded as the first of their kind and god-like in their society. Humans were regarded as always being primitives that were incapable of speech or intelligence with them being little more than animals. Part of this was because Semos and a select number of apes regarded humans as being dangerous thus they enforced the new status quo of mankind serving as slaves to the apes.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

The Evolved Apes were introduced when a pregnant female chimpanzee named Bright Eyes began to show signs of intelligence when she successfully completed the Lucas Tower puzzle with a total of 20 moves, just 5 moves off from the perfect score of 15. Her intelligence was due to the use of the ALZ-112, a drug tested on apes to repair brain cells in humans. Bright Eyes gave birth to a son, later known as Caesar, who inherited his mother's intelligence in utero. At only a day or two old, Caesar was able to feed himself from a bottle, much to the astonishment of his adoptive human father and grandfather, Will and Charles Rodman. As Caesar grew, Will taught him American Sign Language as a way of communication. Over this time, Caesar's IQ skyrocketed, much to Will's amazement as he mentioned that Caesar's skills outdid those of a human. When he was 8 years old, Caesar's skills were tested when he was imprisoned at the San Bruno Primate Shelter. It was here that Caesar used his intelligence to his advantage. He outwited the Alpha Male, Rocket, and became the new Alpha of the group of apes. He taught himself to pick locks and how to fight in order to defend himself. Caesar would then try to bring the apes together, but it was pointed out by his orangutan friend Maurice that the other apes were too stupid for that. This later caused Caesar to break into his old home and steal the new drug called ALZ-113, and after breathing in some of the gas, he stole three canisters of the drug and decided to use it on the other apes. Arriving back at the shelter, he punctured the canisters exposing himself and the sleeping apes to the drug causing them to all become highly intelligent overnight. The next morning, Caesar inspected the other apes and saw they now had green irises like his, which told him they were now evolved apes as well. Because of his own exposure and increasing intelligence, Caesar was the first of the apes to be able to speak, screaming his first word, "NO!", while fighting off Dodge Landon, which greatly startled Dodge, Rodney and t he other apes. He also used his intelligence to lead a mass breakout of apes from the San Bruno Primate Shelter, Gen-Sys Laboratories, and the San Francisco Zoo throwing the city into a mass panic. Apes from the zoo caught the virus from the apes at the sanctuary, which is what led to their enhanced intelligence. Caesar then led an Ape Rebellion in order to get the safety of the Muir Woods Park to start a new era of freedom and peace for his people.

Overview

In appearance, the evolved apes were not a single species of simians but rather represented different ape breeds. Each subcategory has different physical characteristics and abilities, however, most of the apes were agile, strong and possessed the innate ability to climb.

Ape society was divided into a near caste-like line between the different races of Apes that included:

  • Chimpanzees : the liberal chimpanzees tended to serve the role of scientists within the Ape nation.
  • Gorillas : the aggressive gorillas came to operate as a kind of army and police force in Ape society.
  • Orangutans : the conservative orangutans operated as politicians and religious authorities among the Apes.

Ape clothing matched that of 20th century Earth humans, except that the apes wear gloves instead of shoes on their prehensile feet.

The apes smoke tobacco, photograph their hunting trophies, drink through straws, and appear utterly civilized.

Most Apes are unaware of their origins and believe that Humans are simply beasts that would destroy them.
