History
The Aquamarines were a team of military operatives within the United States military that had genetically altered for underwater operations. They were created in response to the Atlantean invasion of the surface world. All its members were from the SEAL program and consisted of spec ops experts that were built to fight against Atlantis. The team was assembled to take part in Project Beakhead that aimed to eliminate the leader of the rogue state of Atlantis if it were to become a threat again to the world. (Aquaman v8 #12) As hostilities increased, the United States Spec Ops team were sent with the goal of neutralising the threat posed by Atlantis by removing its monarch Arthur Curry. They managed to infiltrate the underwater capital and break into the central chamber where they killed several of the Atlantean advisors whilst attempting to eliminate Aquaman. Their efforts were stopped by the intervention of Mera whose hydrokinetic powers helped put them at bay. The mission was ultimately a failure with the Aquamarines being captured and placed in the dungeons of Atlantis. Arthur Curry came to order that they be treated fairly as he looked to stop the rising tensions that could result in open war against the surface. (Aquaman v8 #14)
Afterwards, the U.S. government struggled against the threat posed by the mysterious being called Strange Water. Thus, they contacted Aquaman and asked he work with the Aquamarines in investigating the nature of the entity. Arthur Curry came to agree despite his prior experience with the Aquamarines as he thought it was an opportunity to mend relations between Atlantis and the U.S. During a briefing with Major Ricoh, she revealed that the Scavenger had informed the FBI that the source of Strange Water was traced to the Gulf of Mexico. The site was home to a U.S. Navy research base with the Aquamarines tac-team being dispatched to take the facility's personnel to safety. Arriving at the base, the Aquamarines came to be hunted by another Dead Water creature that began killing people one by one. (Aquaman v8 #19) They came to learn that Dead Water as an extradimensional being who infected beings where it went on a rampage at the facility. (Aquaman v8 #20) Mera came to use her abilities to restrict Dead Waters movements at the base. In this time, the Aquamarines came to work with the Scavenger who provided what intelligence he had on the creature. Toye was ambushed by Dead Water but managed to fight it off till it changed back human. He would end up killing the host who turned out to had been one of the scientists at the facility. (Aquaman v8 #21)

Alternate Versions
- In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Special v1 #1 (2023), an alternate version of the team appeared in a reality based on the DC Extended Universe. They were unnamed but referred to as U.S. marines who were opposed to superheroes resulting in them being kicked out of the corps for stealing classified information. This involved the theft of a Meta Bomb that used Apokoliptian residual energies to reprogram DNA. The technology was intended to turn them into half-aquatic hybrids with abilities in order to become an anti-superhuman defense. These marines struck at a scientific gathering in New York City where they were defeated by the Justice League. Whilst being transported away, they were freed by the terrorist known as Charybdis who had been transformed by the Meta Bomb. He then transformed the marines giving them their aquatic forms and had them help him attack Atlantis. The marines were defeated by Aquaman as he used his telepathy that could now control them before confronting Charybdis.
