History

Arcana Famiglia (ファミリア, Arukana Famiria, Arcane Family) were a family along with its associates that settled on the island of Regalo who served as a vigilante group and self-appointment government for the people situated there. Many years ago, a young Mondo headed the family when the island came under attack from soldiers that arrived on boat and had orders to eliminate the Famiglia. By this point, Mondo had opened the seal behind the Tarocco and then made a contract with The World card in order to gain its power which he used to fight off the soldiers. Thus, peace was restored to the island with the Arcana Famiglia continuing their responsibility in managing Regalo as Mondo came to be Papa who led the family. However, there was a price in using The World in that it was responsible for sustaining all the Tarocco that lacked a host to wield their power. Over the years, the Famiglia gained several more members that came into possession of some of the Arcana cards and thus their power but still the vast majority lacked wielders and thus drew their power from Mondo causing him to be weakened and at times rendered unconscious. Jolly who was Mondo's right hand man and advisor began experiments to find a means of saving Papa leading to him forcibly implanting Tarocco into the young Luca, Debito and Pace. Despite this, Mondo still grew weak from the strain on him from the other cards. Jolly's secretly began alchemical experiments in creating homunculus to be wielders of the Tarocco but these proved to be failures.

Mondo eventually decided to step down as Papa of the family but began the Arcana Duello as a means of deciding the new leader of the Famiglia. This involved a challenge for the various members to defeat him in order to take over his position. Mondo stated that he would provide the winner their greatest wish and that they would marry his daughter Felicità who would become the new Mama. Felicità did not want to marry and opposed this decision to which Mondo told her to take part in the Duello. In reality, the Duello was a charade as Mondo felt that he would eventually die from the strain of sustaining the other Tarocco cards and wanted Felicita to be cared for by a husband once he passed away.
