Biography
Antonia Louise "Toni" Monetti was a female human born as the daughter of a former U.S. Senator from New Jersey. Around the time she turned 16 years old, Toni's skin turned silver and she was abducted by the H'San Natall. She and three other teenagers - Isaiah Crockett, Cody Driscoll, and Audrey Spears - learn that they are part H'San Natall and were intended as part of a sleeper agent program to help the species take over Earth. With the funding of Loren Jupiter, the teens found a new incarnation of the Teen Titans. (Teen Titans v2 #3)
At first, Toni was not a very serious adventurer. However, after fellow teammate Joto apparently died, Argent took his death particularly hard and she vowed to become a better hero. It was then that Loren Jupiter disbanded the team, and Argent sought training advice from Robin. She accompanied him on a mission to stop drug runners, but when she found out her father was involved, she decided to keep the information secret.
When the Teen Titans reformed, Argent was instrumental in initiating a membership drive. The team took on new members Fringe and Captain Marvel, Jr. (also known as CM3). A possible romance of Argent with CM3 was explored, but after a particularly horrible date (CM3 was unable to cover the bill), it was abandoned.
During the adventure, the teens learned that they were half-alien, and their mothers were impregnated by the H’San Natall years ago. All born on June 21st, the kids were part of a sleeper agent program by the H’San Natall to defeat the super-powered beings already on Earth. The group stayed together, and with the funding of Loren Jupiter, became the newest incarnation of the Teen Titans. The heat-generating Isaiah Crockett became Joto; Toni Monetti’s silver plasma powers earned her the codename Argent; With enhanced speed and strength, Cody Driscoll took the nickname Risk; And the alien girl who could absorb and project light adopted the name Prysm. Atom decided to remain on the team to learn how to readjust to his life as a teenager, since he was de-aged by Extant during the Zero Hour Crisis.
After another battle with the H'San Natall, the team discovered that Joto was in fact alive. When members Prysm and Fringe decided to stay in space, and with CM3 having left earlier, the team decided to disband.
The Titans’ lives were soon turned upside down with the arrival of a mysterious super-powered youth known as Epsilon. Hired by a Argent’s father, Epsilon worked in conjunction with his lover, Theta, to infiltrate the Titans and bring them down from within. But Epsilon’s plans were sidelined when he was possessed by fourteen-year-old D.E.O. charge Kevin Tanaka, who used Epsilon to secure safe haven for his fellow D.E.O. orphans at Titans Tower. Under this guise, Kevin unwittingly began a romance with Argent, who was smitten with Epsilon’s rugged good looks. But that romance was shattered when the real psychotic Epsilon regained control, exposing Kevin’s ruse and breaking Argent’s heart in the process. In the process, Epsilon destroyed Titans Tower and escaped. When he went to seek revenge on Kevin, the Titans intervened. Argent participated, but was knocked out. In the end, Kevin used his powers to possess Argent and defeat Epsilon, seemingly killing him. In the aftermath, Kevin tried to apologize to her, but she was too heartbroken to forgive him. Later, she tells fellow Titan Jesse Quick that she wishes he was dead, only to find out he actually passed away. Rather than feel remorseful, she expresses satisfaction at the boy's death.
An army of Earth’s heroes, including Argent, who’d responded to the Teen Titans emergency signal, appeared to take Superboy-Prime down during the Sinestro Corps invasion of Earth. The heroes focused on wrecking his armor, because after a year on Oa, and away from a yellow sun his Kryptonian body still wasn’t at full strength, and his armor collected sunlight. Superboy bragged that once the sun rose on Earth he’d be at full power. Superboy was battered by Wonder Girl and Wonder Woman, who blamed him for Superboy’s death, as well as Supergirl and Power Girl, who blamed him for the death of the Superman of Earth-2. As the fight went against him, Superboy broke down in tears. He tried to wipe them away, saying that it was impossible foir boys to cry, and then whining that no one ever thanked him for sacrificing his Earth to save the multiverse. The battle lasted until dawn, and he flew into the sunrise. As he achieved full power he declared himself the one, true Superman. The Guardians arrived with Sodam Yat, the new Ion, and pitted him against Superboy-Prime. (Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Superman-Prime v1 #1)
One Year Later, Argent became one of the twenty members of the Teen Titans who quit after only a few weeks. During this time, her look was redesigned and began dating and later breaks up with teammate Molecule. Toni was later reunited with the Titans when they saved her from being attacked by a giant mutated shark creature. Trigon was bent on destroying every Titan, past and present, and the original Titans reformed to stop him. The Titans saved Argent from being killed by Trigon’s minions. (Titans v2 #2)
