Arno Moriani is a male character from Dracula 3: The Path of the Dragon

Biography

Arno Moriani was born in the 19th century and was an adult when World War II impacted the Earth. During this time, Moriani served as a priest-medic in the Italian Army where he stationed at both Asiago and Caporetto. In the latter of the two conflicts, a shell buried his unit leaving Arno the only survivor. Following the war, he resided at the Vatican where he was a member of the Sacred Congregation of Rites and held the position of Father where he was constantly plagued by nightmares from the war. On the 3rd of September 1920, he was assigned by Monsigner Cardinal Felicio Briganti the task of journeying to Vladovista in the bishopric of Alba Iula in Translyvania shortly after it had been annexed by Romania. The purpose of his mission was to investigate the case of Martha Calugaral, a physician and scientist who died a few short months ago. Moriani's task was Devil's Advocate and Promotor of the Faith was to determine whether she was suitable for being ascended to the post of saint of the Catholic Church. Calugaral's past work led to the Vatican believing that she would rapidly pass the process though they desired Arno to investigate the matter first.

His findings later led to the discovery that Doctor Calugaral believed in the existence of vampires and worked in conjunction with the several individuals including the local priest to combat these creatures of the night. Father Moriani immediately reported his findings to the Vatican where Cardinal Briganti decided that Doctor Calugaral would not be suitable for sainthood due to her superstition. In order to combat this wave of vampire belief, Arno Moriani was given a new task - to find and disprove the legend surrounding the vampires.

Background

His time during the war had a deep impact on his psyche and he struggled to forget the horrors that he had seen. He suffered from constant nightmares where he found himself waking up in a coffin buried underground leading him to frantically trying to scratch his way out only to wake up from the dream. When asked whether this was a fear of dying, Arno replied that it was a fear of suffocation that terrifed him. He often consulted the Bible in order to interpret his dreams and life even though some believed that he was descending into superstition. Moriani often disagreed with such comments as he believed that nothing was the result of chance but rather an expression of God's will. His elders at the Vatican often believed that his search for answers might result in Arno being led astray.

He was fluent in Romanian, Hungarian and German languages.
