Biography
Samantha Eve Wilkins
In reality, she was the subject of in utero experiments funded by the government that wanted to create living weapons with the project headed by Dr. Elias Brandyworth. However, he came to regret his actions and did not want such a life for her. Thus, he staged her death but in reality he moved her to a civilian hospital so that she would escape the government. She was then switched from birth with the still-birth child of the Wilkins family who believed she was their daughter. (Invincible v1 #25)
Through her childhood, she would see her father, Brandyworth, watching her from a distance. Her first word was CH2OH, which is the chemical group of hydroxymethyl. During her toddler years, she would demonstrate core excellency in the field of science by helping a babysitter with his homework. She would also be admitted into a school for young scholars, but later kicked out because she was not fulfilling their standards. After a brief argument with her father, her mom would deliver her a meal of chicken, much to her disgust. It was then she discovered her powers of transmutation by turning her meal into a cheeseburger. She would practice her powers on various objects such a baseball bat, clothes, and so on. She would make her crime-fighting debut when attacking animal thief and meet with her father for the first time. Brandyworth revealed to her that she had her transmutation powers because of him and she was going to be a weapon for the U.S. government. He also revealed that him falling in love with her real mother caused him to not allow Samantha to be a weapon. He warned Samantha not to use her powers in public out of fear that she may attract the government’s attention. She flew off with her not paying attention to what he told her. Years later, she would engage in a battle with a villain named Killcannon where she would don a mask and call herself Atom Eve. Brandyworth would appear again to warn Samantha again, but she rebuffed him by saying that she was covering her face to hide her identity. (Invincible Presents: Atom Eve v1 #1)
The Teen Team responded to an incident involving the Mauler Twins who were battling a new superhero named Invincible. As the twins attempted to steal a shipment of hazardous materials, she used her subatomic manipulation powers to create translucent pink energy shields, protecting her team from the villains' brute-force attacks. She then transmuted the ground beneath one of the twins into a deep pit to immobilize him and generated solid energy projectiles to strike from a distance. After the arrival of a new, independent hero who assisted in the skirmish, she coordinated with her teammates to secure the perimeter and ensure the stolen chemicals were not compromised. Working together, they apprehended the two supervillains whereupon Robot offered Invincible a place on their team though he declined as he was starting out recently. While attending a high school physics class, Samantha Eve Wilkins noticed a familiar face and learnt that Invincible was actually Mark Grayson who was a fellow student at Reginald Vel Johnson High School with them having once taken biology class together. She later confronted the individual on a rooftop to discuss their shared extracurricular activities. She revealed her secret identity and demonstrated her mastery over molecular manipulation by effortlessly changing the color of her civilian clothing to her heroic uniform. After explaining the nature of her subatomic powers, she invited the newcomer to join her and the Teen Team on a nighttime patrol. During this excursion, she detected a disturbance at a local industrial park and led the group to a warehouse where the Mauler Twins were attempting to steal high-tech equipment. Utilizing her energy constructs, she shielded her allies from a hail of gunfire and used her transmutation abilities to turn the villains' own weaponry into harmless flora, ultimately helping to secure the facility and force the twins into a temporary retreat. Atom Eve played a critical role during the Sequids’ invasion of Earth. As hordes of alien-controlled hosts advanced, she converted surrounding debris into weaponized spikes and reinforced defensive structures to slow their approach. When larger groups broke through, she reshaped the battlefield by creating walls and energy fields, buying time for heroes to regroup. At one point, she saved Mark from being overwhelmed by restructuring a swarm of alien parasites into inert organic material, neutralizing the immediate threat. Her resourcefulness proved essential to the heroes’ success in halting the invasion. (Invincible v1 #25)
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Atom Eve was depicted as a young woman with long, wavy pink hair, bright green eyes, and a slender build. Her most recognizable costume was a magenta leotard with a white atom insignia across her chest, paired with matching boots and gloves, symbolizing her molecular manipulation powers. In casual settings, Eve wore everyday clothes that emphasized her identity as a normal young woman balancing heroism with a personal life. (Invincible v1 #2)
Atom Eve was compassionate, intelligent, and resourceful, often prioritizing the safety of innocents over her own well-being. She demonstrated independence, frequently stepping away from traditional superhero groups when their values conflicted with her own, such as choosing to use her powers to directly help people rather than fight crime exclusively. Eve’s strong will and empathy often guided her decision-making, though she also carried moments of self-doubt when struggling with the broader consequences of her abilities. (Invincible v1 #6)
Despite facing intense trauma, physical harm, and devastating personal losses, Atom Eve remained determined to fight for what she believes was right. Her mental resilience was a core aspect of her character, especially as she faces threats far more powerful than herself. This was seen when she was badly injured in the fight against alternate versions of Invincible. In that time, the powerful Viltrumite warrior named Conquest had arrived where she decided to leave the hospital to go fight him. (Invincible v1 #61)
After leaving the Guardians, Atom Eve came to struggle with the traditional idea of superheroism and often sought out ways to help people on a grand scale, focusing on prevention rather than reaction. She had a strong humanitarian streak and was burdened by the knowledge that her powers could be used to solve many of the world's problems, like poverty and hunger. (Invincible v1 #24)
Dr. Brandworthy claimed that in a sense he was her actual father as he was in charge of the experiments that created her. He had faked her death so that she could live an ordinary life and escape being turned into a living weapon by the government. (Invincible v1 #25)
After her breakup with Rex Splode, an upset Eve wanted to seek comfort from Mark. However, upon seeing him with Amber, she decided not to interrupt them and though heartbroken she did not wish to ruin Mark's happiness. (Invincible v1 #22)
Powers and abilities
Even as a baby, she could verbally speak the molecular structure of objects though her parents mistook this to be 'baby talk'. (Invincible v1 #25)
Atom Eve could manipulate matter at the molecular and subatomic levels, allowing her to transmute objects into entirely different substances, create structures, heal injuries, and alter her environment. She could form defensive barriers, construct weapons or tools instantly, and even reshape organic matter under extreme conditions. Her powers functioned both offensively and defensively, giving her versatility beyond most heroes in her universe. Despite these abilities, her limitations came from mental strain, as extensive or reckless use could exhaust her physically and emotionally. (Invincible v1 #25)
Later on, she came to discover that she had powers whereby she could alter the molecular structure of objects. (Invincible v1 #25)
She had the power of flight allowing her to fly unaided and go high up to the clouds. (Invincible v1 #2)
