Biography

Jeanne-Marie Beaubier

A few weeks later, Department H was closed down and their operatives had to go back to their former lives. Aurora reverted back to her repressed 'Jeanne-Marie' mode and returned to full-time teaching at Madame DuPont's School for Girls, like she had originally planned. When Jean-Paul dropped by for a visit, he was shocked by the change in his usually free-spirited sister. Making fun of the pair of glasses and the prissy clothes she was hiding behind, and forcing her to look at herself in a mirror, Northstar managed to snap her back into Aurora. Together, they answered a call from the Hudsons, who had decided to keep Alpha Flight running even without governmental funding. (Alpha Flight v1 #1) While the team tracked down their missing teammate, Marrina, to the Master's base, Aurora became separated from the rest of Alpha Flight, including her protective brother. She was trapped between moving bars, more and more of them closing in on her until she was not able to move anymore. Her speed was useless in overcoming this obstacle, and the trap triggered memories in Aurora of Sister Anne's cruel treatment. By the time she was freed by Sasquatch, she had already retreated into the 'Jeanne-Marie' persona, worrying her lover to a great degree, as he did not know this aspect of Aurora. James Hudson had no choice but to reveal Jeanne-Marie's psychological status to the concerned Sasquatch, including that the 'Jeanne-Marie' persona despised the happy-go-lucky 'Aurora' and wanted nothing to do with Alpha Flight, or Walter. Sasquatch still tried to get through to her, but with no success. While she did remember the intimacy they had shared, she remembered as "Jeanne-Marie" and angrily lashed out at Walter. After the mission was completed, Northstar took his sister away and Walt returned to his various scientific projects that he still had going on the side. (Alpha Flight v1 #4)

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Aurora was depicted as a striking woman with long, flowing brown hair and sharp features that mirrored her twin brother Northstar. She wore the white-and-black Alpha Flight costume with the maple leaf motif, her sleek figure accentuated by the form-fitting design that emphasized her speedster role. The symmetrical design of her uniform with Northstar’s highlighted their bond as siblings and their connection to the Canadian team. (X-Men v1 #120)

Aurora was written with a complex duality tied to her dissociative identity disorder. One side of her personality was modest, reserved, and shy—traits developed during her strict Catholic upbringing. The other side was extroverted, flirtatious, and confident, often clashing with her more conservative persona. This dual nature made her unpredictable both to her teammates and opponents, sometimes causing tension with Alpha Flight, but also granting her a unique charm and emotional depth. (Alpha Flight v1 #8)

Powers and abilities

Aurora possessed the mutant ability of super-speed, allowing her to move, react, and think at incredible velocities. She could generate bursts of acceleration that enabled her to strike enemies before they could react and even run across water or up vertical surfaces. When in physical contact with Northstar, she could create devastating light bursts capable of blinding opponents or stunning them in combat. Her speed also granted her heightened durability and reflexes to withstand high-impact collisions. (Alpha Flight v1 #1)
