Biography

Barney Barton was a male human born to Harold Barton and his wife Edith Barton with him having a brother named Clint Barton. The siblings grew up in their father's butcher shop in Waverly, Iowa where he came to be abusive to them whenever he drank leading to him regularly beating up his sons. (Hawkeye: Blindspot v1 #1)

The brothers were put in care at the Saint Ignatius Home for Orphaned Boys where they spent six years with no one adopting them. One day, Barney came to convince Clint to runaway as he believed no one would take a pair of 'damaged kids' like them leading to them fleeing the orphanage. (Hawkeye: Blindspot v1 #1)

Encountering the Swordsman, he came to offer the brothers a job at the carnival where he noted Clint Barton's talent in archery and took him under his wing. (Avengers v1 #65)

Barney parted ways with Clint where he instead decided to go into a life of crime as a big time hood. (Avengers v1 #65)

He was in Avengers Tower when it was destroyed where he survived the destruction but was in a coma-like state. Operatives from H.A.M.M.E.R. faked his death where they took Barney and healed his injuries so that he could meet their leader Norman Osborn. Once there, he was offered a place on his team of Dark Avengers where he took his brothers identity of Hawkeye among them. (New Avengers v2 #18)
