Biography

Bart Hamilton

While out at the movies with a date in Far Rockaway, Hamilton spotted Harry in the parking lot and pulled over to say hello. Harry introduced him to his fiancée Liz Allan and his friend Flash Thompson. After a quick chat, Hamilton drove off. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #167) After another session, Hamilton told Harry that he had come a long way since he began treatment. Hamilton saw Harry out when Liz came to pick him up. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #169) After Harry had a nervous breakdown following a violent encounter between Liz and the Molten Man, Peter Parker and Flash took him to Hamilton's clinic. They explained the situation to Hamilton, who gave Osborn a sedative; they left Harry in Hamilton's care, confident that the doctor would help him. As they departed, Hamilton noted that Parker had not looked at all like he had expected. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #174) Still at Hamilton's clinic, Harry talked about what had transpired with Liz and the Molten Man, but Hamilton's comments took on a cruel, mocking tone, enraging Osborn. He leapt over Hamilton's desk and attacked him; the two grappled, but Hamilton emerged the victor - and swore that the time had come for the Green Goblin to live again. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #175)

Hamilton ransacked Osborn's apartment when Osborn's roommate Flash Thompson came in. He confronted the masked Hamilton, believing he was Harry but the Green Goblin blasted him into unconsciousness, only to find himself face-to-face with Spider-Man. The Goblin tried to escape on his glider, but Spider-Man, who also believed the Goblin was Harry, leapt on it; unable to carry both of them, the glider slammed into the wall. Hamilton then hit Spider-Man with his electro-bat, but Spider-Man shrugged it off and hit the Goblin with a web-line, keeping him tethered so Spider-Man could rain blows upon him. Uninterested in Spider-Man at the moment, Hamilton grabbed the unconscious Thompson and hurled him out the window. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #176) As Spider-Man leaned out of the window to save Thompson, the Goblin kicked him out of it, giving him time to escape on his glider. He departed to a warehouse in the Lower East Side, where he'd stashed the bound and hooded Harry Osborn. He explained his ambitions to rule the New York underworld, and, although he felt he owed Osborn a great deal from their psychiatric sessions, he had gladly kill him if he needed to. The Goblin flew off, and began assaulting every gangster he could find until one of them revealed the location of the meeting being held that night by Silvermane to unite the city's gangs. Learning that it was at the World Trade Center's Top of the World restaurant, the Goblin crashed the meeting, challenging Silvermane for leadership. Silvermane set his hoods on the Goblin, but Hamilton made short work of them. Finally, he told the gangsters that he could eliminate Spider-Man, the biggest thorn in their side, once and for all - because he knew his secret identity. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #177)
