Biography
Origin
Elizabeth Kane was a female human born in the modern age as the daughter of Jacob Kane and Gabi Kane with her having a twin sister in Kate Kane.
In Brussels, the Kane family became the victim of a terrorist kidnapping. Gabi, Elizabeth, and Katherine were abducted; their chaperone Sergeant Carol was killed. Though Colonel Kane led the rescue mission, Katherine was the only apparent survivor. Gabi was shot through the head, and Elizabeth also seemingly lost her life. (Detective Comics v1 #858)
Elizabeth survived, but was mentally broken. Now part of the Religion of Crime, she styled herself as Alice, after the main character in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. She would only speak in quotes from that book. She quickly rose to power within the Religion of Crime, and was fast on her way of becoming the new High Priestess of Gotham City. Pursuant to this, she kidnapped Colonel Kane, hoping his access to Fort Richards would allow her to acquire toxic gas. Colonel Kane recognized her as his long-lost daughter, but was too dumbstruck to do anything. In the ensuing fight with Batwoman (her sister Kate), she fell out of the plane into the river after stabbing Batwoman's extended hand with the words, "You have our father's eyes." Later Batwoman tested her blood against that of Alice, to prove that she was in fact her sister Beth Kane. Kate believed that Alice/Beth Kane was dead as a result of the fall from the plane, but the police never recovered Beth's body. In the aftermath of Alice's death, Kate continued fighting the Religion of Crime, finding them defending a strange sarcophagus. (Batwoman v1 #0)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Elizabeth Kane
During her recovery, a breakthrough was made and Beth came to recover from her time as Alice. This saw her father allowing her to remain off-the-grid a bit longer before Beth decided to surprise her sister Kate in Gotham. The siblings re-united though Beth came to notice that Kate was now involved with a woman named Natalia Knight who seemingly held sway over her life. This saw Beth come into regular arguments with Natalia over the deaths of her previous husbands though Kate refused to be swayed to turn against her new girlfriend. Later on, Beth joined Kate when she went out as Batwoman with the two going out on patrol in the city. (Batwoman v2 #39)
Whilst in Switzerland, Beth was kidnapped by the villain Knife where Beth was drugged and brainwashed into becoming her Alice persona once again. This led to her once again becoming a supervillain with her dedicated in terrorising her bitter enemy namely Batwoman. (Batwoman v3 #16)
Three months later, she was set up in Kate's apartment where she was looked after by both her sister and Julia Pennyworth as well as received psychological care. (Batwoman v3 #17)

Powers and abilities
As Alice, she inducted into the ranks of the Religion of Crime who were leaderless at the time. The thirteen covers that made up the cult decided to elect Alice to lead the group and granting her the title of High Madame. (Detective Comics v1 #854)

Alternate Versions
- In Batwoman: Futures End v1 (2014), an alternate version of Beth Kane as Red Alice appeared in the alternate future of Future's End. Set five years into a potential future, Batwoman has become a vampire. Red Alice joins with Clayface, Jason Blood/Etrigan the Demon, and Ragman to try to stop her. During the battle, Batwoman kills Jason and Clayface. Red Alice fends off Batwoman's attacks using technology given to her by Bruce Wayne, and then reluctantly and tearfully kills her sister by driving a wooden stake through her heart.

- In Batwoman, Beth Kane appeared in the live-action television series where she was portrayed by actress Rachel Skarsten whilst the younger version from flashbacks was portrayed by actress Ava Sleet.
