Biography
Biba Amatori (Japanese: 天鳥 美馬, Hepburn: Amatori Biba) was a Japanese male born in Kongokaku as the son of the Shogun Okimasa in an age when the Kabane prowled over the country. When he was a child, he was noted for being greatly loved by his father and with the two riding on horseback happily. The only gift his father had ever given him was a Tanto which Biba had treasured dearly in his life. However, as he grew older, his father began to grow more paranoid about the outbreak of Kabane. This culminated in one night where he removed all the lights from their home and continuously slashed the back of his son Biba whilst in a state of panic. This left Biba shocked at his fathers actions who attempted to defend his acts though these were driven by fear. Since that time, his relationship with his father began to deteriorate with Biba slowly being distant from his father. When he was 12 years old, he was assigned as commander of an army of over 400,000 troops that were dispatched to Kyushu with orders from his father the Shogun to exterminate the Kabane threat. At first, Biba and his forces maintained a strong position with them establishing several bases from which they held back against the undead Kabane. This initial success later fell apart as vital replacement supplies never arrived and their forces came to be cut off leading to them being defeated by the enemy. This led to Biba being emotionally devastated and him coming to learn that his father had intentionally withheld the supplies leading to their defeat. As a result, Biba came to develop an intense unbridled hatred for his father for this act of betrayal and swore to get revenge against the Shogun. Over the next ten years, he restructured his surviving warriors into an elite anti-Kabane unit called the Hunters whilst he developed his secret plans against his father.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Biba Amatori had distinctive long pink hair and his features were described as beautiful by women. Among the titles he was known by was the Liberator (解放者, Kaihousha).
He believed in a philosophy where the strong survived and that the weak died with people having the choice of fighting in order to become stronger. Even those that were considered weak had a purpose to him as he was known to transform them into Kabaneris in order to use them as his personal combat troops. However, those too injured to serve faced being discarded or banished by him as he had no further use for them.
Amatori was known to be charismatic and able to draw people to his command. Mumei, also known as Claw of the Liberator, addresses him as "Brother" (兄様, Ani-sama). She looks up to him to the point of idolatry, frequently quoting him and even talking to him in her sleep. She even goes so far as to hit Ikoma and call him a liar when defending Biba against Ikoma's accusations. However, Biba does not appear to genuinely reciprocate her affection, only praising her to use her. Even Enoku, known as former Ear of the Liberator, desperately wanted to "continue serving the Young Master away from the front lines" by acting as a double agent. It is implied that Enoku faltered in his mission years ago and is thus dismissed. Biba reads Ikoma easily and knows exactly what to say to win instant kinship.
Biba harbors a deep insecurity of being betrayed and back-stabbed. To compensate for his father's betrayal on the battlefield years ago, he adopts an extreme worldview, which he passes on to Mumei: "Live on your own. Don't rely on others." He also ruthlessly kills and murders those whose loyalty he doubts eg) Enoku. Even more frighteningly, he seems to subject servants he suspects to the interrogation chamber/Kabane experimental center Tsutsugamidokoro. When Ikoma confronted Biba over his worldview, Biba sends Mumei off to the Tsutsugamidokoro for revealing such personal and controversial information. It is unknown what occurred, but Mumei is next seen waking up on the medical examination table. Next, Biba sends her on a mission that will test her true allegiance - to steal the master key from Ayame. He is quietly pleased when she discovers that Yukina and Ayame had lied to her.
His father was the Shogun Okimasa Amatori but he came to despise the man over his treatment of him. This was because of his repeated beatings when Biba was young and culminated in his betrayal when he left the young Amatori stranded amongst the Kabane.
Powers and abilities
Biba was armed with a gun-sword that was coated with Kabane heart metal and was skilled in its use in battle.
He commanded an independent unit called the Hunters (狩方衆, Karikatashuu) who were loyal to him and were skilled in fighting Kabane.
