- Bibbo Bibbowski was created by Jerry Ordway and Marv Wolfman where he made his first appearance in Adventures of Superman v1 #428 (May, 1987).

- In the DC Animated Universe, Bibbo Bibbowski made several appearances in the animated series.
- In Superman: The Animated Series, Bibbo Bibbowski made his first animated appearance in the pilot episode "The Last Son of Krypton" where he was voiced by actor Brad Garrett. Bibbowski was shown as being an unemployed sea captain who was usually present at the Hobb's Day section of Metopolis and he served as Lois Lane's information source at the docks. After the emergence of Superman, he was shown to idolize the hero and consider him his friend.
