History

Biological Optical Transputer Systems (B.I.O.T.) were a type of robot that were developed by the time after the Resource Wars that decimated the 21st century. The B.I.O.T.s were deployed as the centerpiece of Maximum Inc.’s corporate dominance over Metropia, functioning as tireless servants and enforcers. In their earliest displays, they were shown patrolling city streets, working as laborers in heavy industry, and manning defensive security systems for the corporation. Their presence was intended both for efficiency and intimidation, as they could replace human workers and soldiers without fatigue or protest. In direct engagements, B.I.O.T.s acted as law enforcers, moving in organized formations and following precise commands from corporate overseers. They engaged in arrests, crowd control, and, when ordered, violent suppression of resistance. They had no hesitation in applying overwhelming force, as they lacked human emotion or conscience, making them a visible representation of Maximum Inc.’s grip over the population. Later, B.I.O.T.s were deployed in covert operations and assassinations under Maximum Inc.’s orders. Their programming allowed them to infiltrate restricted spaces and carry out missions with cold precision. In one operation, they were used to hunt the Phantom, tracking his movement through Metropia’s undercity with enhanced sensors. They demonstrated adaptability in combat, switching between ranged weapons and melee strikes depending on their target’s defenses. While individually they were not as advanced as the Phantom’s agility and tactical skill, their advantage lay in sheer numbers, swarming their target and overwhelming opposition through coordinated strikes. Their expendability made them a constant threat, as they could be destroyed without any meaningful cost to Maximum Inc., only to be replaced by more units.

In large-scale scenarios, B.I.O.T.s became essential components of Maximum Inc.’s military-industrial plans. They were deployed in vast armies during corporate escalations, flooding battlefields with identical units programmed to follow strict commands. Their lack of individuality meant that they functioned as an extension of Maximum’s will, a faceless force of automation. In one confrontation with resistance forces, they marched in rigid lines, supported by aerial drone models and larger mechanized variants, making them effective in coordinated offensives. However, their inability to think creatively or act outside their programming left them vulnerable when confronted by the Phantom and his allies, who exploited the rigidity of their orders to trap and disable large swaths of the android soldiers.

Overview

In appearance, the B.I.O.T.s were humanoid machines designed to mimic certain human proportions while retaining an unmistakably artificial presence. They had skeletal metallic frames covered in synthetic plating that was often dark in tone, giving them an imposing and militaristic look. Their faces were featureless, marked by glowing visual sensors that could scan, track, and identify targets. The standard combat B.I.O.T.s were constructed with broad torsos, reinforced limbs, and clawed or articulated hands designed for both manual labor and close combat. Their design was intentionally dehumanized, reminding observers that they were corporate constructs rather than individuals.

B.I.O.T.s possessed superhuman strength, able to lift, crush, and break materials beyond human capacity. Their optical systems provided enhanced sensory perception, allowing them to track heat signatures, detect motion, and interface with computer systems for surveillance. Many were outfitted with modular weapon systems, including built-in energy blasters or detachable melee implements, making them adaptable to various mission types. They required no rest, food, or morale, functioning continuously as long as their energy systems remained intact. Their primary limitation lay in their lack of creativity and autonomy, as they were bound to the orders of their programming, incapable of true independent thought. This flaw made them predictable opponents for skilled adversaries like the Phantom, who leveraged human ingenuity against their machine precision

One special type of these robots were Fractal Biots that were developed by Max Madison Junior which was created by using nanites grown in space by Sean One creating a shapeshifting machine. The first such unit was called Heisenberg and was named by Max Madison Jr who was successful in creating the first stable fractal biot. Madison controlled Heisenberg through a separate remote brain that was carried around in a case. (Episode: The Sum of the Parts)

Rogue BIOTs were believed to have been a symptom of the growing fall of society.
