History

The Brotherhood of Hecate was a secret society that was formed at an unknown point in the last few centuries though did exist as far back as the 17th century. Their goal was simple, to create a new race of beings that were stronger as well as more powerful than mankind which would rule first London and eventually the world. To accomplish this goal, they operated under covert as a scientific research study group that watched natural phenomena. Under this guise, they began stealing corpses and experimenting with them in order to isolate an extremely virulent disease that was an agent mixed with the plague, rabies and other unknown compounds. Through such a disease, they intended to transform normal human beings into much more powerful beings. Their initial experiments turned out to be a failure as instead of creating these promised supermen, they instead devolved their test subjects into grotesque as well as ravenous monsters. Despite this being the case, the Brotherhood decided to release their virulent agent into London and infect its citizens as a means of gaining dominion over them.

In 1660, the group was joined by the writer Samuel Pepys who grew increasingly alarmed by the apparent mad actions of his brethren. Thus, he turned against them and attempted to stop their plans from destroying London. Becoming intent on the Brotherhood of Hecates destruction, he put a stop to their experiments forever. As such, on 1666, the secret society gathered in their crypt hideout beneath a warehouse at St. Katharine's Dock where Samuel Pepys set fire to the place and burnt it to the ground. This act apparently destroyed the Brotherhood along with all their equipment, notes and all traces of their existence. The flames spread quickly into the streets of London which in turn resulted in the Great Fire of 1666 though the people of the world did not know the true reason why this was the case.

It would be seventy years later that a bizarre plague engulfed the town of London with the infected experiencing horrible mutations. People began to disappear into the dark alleys as well as sewers of the city. In this this time, a mysterious black tome was discovered at the doorstep of Ignatius Blackward - unknown to him, it had been left there by the hands of Hecate member Henry Victor Holy Jail who had grown concerned over the direction of the Brotherhood's leader. He deciphered it being a manuscript that served as a diary of the late Samuel Pepys. Within the journal contained an arcane formula for creating organic mutations which alarmed Blackward who decided to consult with a friend of his in New Orleans. This was Dr. Jean Franciscus who was a leading authority in the field of immunology. The formula in the diary alarmed the doctor following his analysis of it and he decided to travel to London with his daughter Nadia. He quickly contacted Blackward but before they could meet at the hotel, Dr Jean F was brutally murdered and the diary was stolen leading to Nadia Francisus embarking on a mission to uncover the culprits.

On October 17th 1834, Nadia and Ignatius uncover a note highligthing the re-emergence of the Brotherhood of Hecate and that an alchemist by the name of Adam Crowley was now the groups new leader who was intent on unleashing his vicious monsters on the world.
