Makoto Mizuhara, a high school boy, checks out the ancient ruins found in the basement of his high school. There he finds Ifurita, a mysterious woman who seems to know him. Ifurita transports him and his friends Katsuhito Jinnai, Nanami Jinnai and Mr. Fujisawa (a teacher) to El Hazard, an alternate universe with magic and many dangers.
