Although this was the sixth Final Fantasy game in Japan, it was released for the Super NES in America as the third game in the series (since Final Fantasy III through V were not initially released in the U.S.). Final Fantasy VI was the last of the main series to be released on a Nintendo system, although it was re-released for the Playstation.
