Charles Hallingford
Charles Hallingford was a Chicago citizen shopping at Steinway's. He had just found a relatively inexpensive business suit when the clone emerged through a drinking fountain and attacked. His reaction to the sight of the clone absorbing people was confusion at first and then curiosity. He poked at it with a yardstick, and observed how it also absorbed certain fabrics in addition to people. Setting aside the suit he had picked out, Charles started "feeding" the clone different clothes to see what it would and wouldn't absorb.
Deciding to take a piece to a chemist friend of his to have it analyzed, Charlies managed to cut off a piece of clone so small it was incapable of assimilating his flesh, allowing him to hold it in his bare hands. However, while looking for a container to carry it out in, Charles noticed the main mass of clone had begun absorbing the business suit he'd wanted to buy. Without thinking he lunged over to try and save it, and wound up being consumed by the creature.
