Cissie Summerly is a female comic character that features in Fawcett Comics.

Biography

Origin

She had a younger brother named Pete and was the niece of Sterling Morris who was the brother of her mother. (Captain Marvel Adventures v1 #12)

At amalgamated broadcasting, her uncle introduced her and her brother to Billy Batson who was asked to provide a tour of the building to them. Unknown to Cissie, Batson developed a crush on her and wanted to ask her out but was too shy to do so. A man who had a vendetta against Sterling Morris later targeted them and attempted to murder them. Batson managed to transform into Captain Marvel who apprehended the criminal whilst ensuring that his true identity remained a secret. Captain Marvel used this moment as an opportunity to help his secret identity where he told Cissie that he was conveying a message from Batson to ask her out on a date. Summerly agreed to do so and later called Billy once she reached the hotel. Batson took Cissie and her brother Pete to a show where the stage magician Sorcero was performing. On stage, Sorcero asked for a volunteer from the audience and Batson offered to take the part where the magician called upon real magic by calling upon the power of Abraxas where he turned Billy's ears into long comedic ones. Though her brother laughed, Cissie did not like the act and felt it was embarrassing. Captain Marvel appeared on the stage with Sorcero feeling challenged by the superhero who disappeared and the magician decided to call upon the power of Abraxas. This act created a monstrous plant that began attacking the audience with Cissie wondering where Captain Marvel was as he could save them. Captain Marvel later appeared where he stopped the rampaging magic of Sorcero and Billy later continued his date with Cissie Summerly. (Captain Marvel Adventures v1 #12)

She was among the people saying goodbye to Billy Batson as he accompanied his Uncle Dudley to conduct interviews with people in the field around the country. In reality, he was sent on a quest by the wizard Shazam to find and defeat the villainous Doctor Sivana who had made a threat to take over the world. (Shazam! v1 #26)

Notes

• Cissie Summerly was created by C. C. Beck where she made her first appearance in Captain Marvel Adventures v1 #12 (June 1942).
• In Shazam! v1 #1 (February 1973), the character appeared in a panel but not named though in the text feature "Shazam & Son" at the back she was identified as Cissie Sommerly and noted as being Billy Batson's girlfriend.
