The Composite was a creation of Professor Ivo who looked to create duplicates of his enemies after gathering the DNA of various superheroes over the course of months. Ultimately, they were deemed nightmarish failures where he buried the stillborn creations in a grave. However, the project survived where the amalgamated samples formed into the Composite Superman where he possessed all the abilities of the entire Justice League. Unaware of this, Ivo used the data he gathered from the Composite to perfect the technology that he used to make Amazo. (Superman/Batman Annual v1 #3)
