History
Cursed Spirits (Japanese: 呪じゅ霊れい, Hepburn: Jurei?) were a race of spiritual beings that were born from cursed energy that was created from negative emotions flowing from human beings.
In the Heian Era, a particularly powerful Curse emerged during the height of jujutsu with this being Ryomen Sukuna who came to be the undisputed King of Curses.
Overview
In appearances, Curses (呪のろい Noroi?) came in a wide variety of shapes and forms. As they were composed of cursed energy, these spirits could not be harmed by conventional means.
They were born when the negative emotions from humans created cursed energy that leaked out and built over time until eventually a cursed spirit took form.
Certain spirits were classed as special grade curses that tended to possess a higher intelligence and a more bipedal form that resembled a human.
Powerful Curses were known to possess a Innate Domain (生得領域しょうとくりょういき Shōtoku Ryōiki?) that was a realm within their mind composed of cursed energy. Some were able to manifest it as an advanced barrier technique known as Domain Expansion (領りょう域いき展てん開かい Ryōiki Tenkai?) and pull others into it.
