Biography

Cygnus Hyoga (Japanese: 白鳥星座の氷河, Hepburn: Kigunasu no Hyōga) was a male human born from the relationship between Japanese billionaire Mitsumasa Kido and the Russian beauty Natassia. He grew up rejected by his father, with his mother as his only family. During a voyage, crossing the Siberian Sea by cruise, the ship suffered an uncontrollable fire, condemning the vessel and forcing everyone to go to the lifeboats. Unfortunately there was no room for Natassia to board. She was not disturbed, having given up her own life to see her son in safety. After this traumatic event, Hyoga was met by his father, who treated him as a stranger. He was officially adopted by the Graad Foundation and started to live with 99 other children, most who were also his half-siblings. Some time passed until Mitsumasa breaks the boys' routine of games and training, conducting a draw where the boys would be sent to different regions of the planet to become Knights. As fate would have it, Hyoga was sent to the lands of Siberia, where his mother rested in peace in the depths of the sea. Hyoga was trained by Aquarius Camus, having as a partner Isaak - another aspiring Knight. After six years of training, Hyoga - now alone - had still not managed to become a Knight, until Yakov brought him a letter from the Sanctuary informing him of the location of the Cygnus Armor. The letter still ordered Hyoga to kill the other Bronze Knights participating in the Galactic tournament for self-interest, since, according to the rules of the Sanctuary, it was forbidden to fight for personal reasons.

In the manga, Hyōga originally did not choose to participate in the Graude Foundation's Galaxian Wars until he received an order from Sanctuary to assassinate the other bronze saints. He originally accepted this due to his hatred for the Graude Foundation, being aware that Mitsumasa Kido was his father. As he became more familiar with his subjects, however, Hyōga grew indecisive about his mission. Once Silver Saints began to target him along with the other bronze saints, however, he dropped his allegiance to Sanctuary. His rage towards Sanctuary boiled after his master Camus made an unexpected visit to Siberia to send his mother's ship deep into the ocean's abyss. When the series began, Hyōga was depicted as cold and calculating, and he was often seen keeping distance from the other saints. During the battle with Phoenix Ikki, his tender side was revealed, and he slowly began to display his true personality. In the Sanctuary arc, Hyōga became extremely close to Andromeda Shun after his comrade displayed an act of selflessness in an attempt to revive his cosmos from death, constantly referring to how he owed Shun his life.
