(SG1: The Gamekeeper) He then fell under the care of his great grandfather Nicholas Ballard though the man never adopted Daniel and instead went around the world on exploration expeditions. (SG1: Crystal Skull)

In the years afterwards, he came to study the pyramid where he found a cartouche containing coordinates of other Stargates and determined that there was a network of such portals spanning the galaxy. (SG1: Children of the Gods)

The Abydos Stargate later activated where only a tissue box emerged and he immediately knew that this was a message from Jack O'Niell. On the box, he wrote a thank you and sent it back to Earth thus signifying that the gate was unburied allowing for O'Niell to arrive. (SG1: Children of the Gods)
