History

The I Legion were a legion of the Adeptus Astartes that were created by the Imperium of Man.

Overview

They were considered a dour brotherhood who were characterised by their deep commitment to millennia-old rituals, loyalty, discipline, and self-sufficiency.

They were a fighting force whose allegiance to the Emperor and his Imperium was nigh impossible to dispute, yet few call them friends. None knew much of them due to their determined reclusiveness.

Lieutenants acted as the right hands of their Captains by providing flexibility and helping to direct their battle-brothers in engagements. Battle Companies were often split into 2 Demi-companies, each of which fell under the command of a Lieutenant who led his brothers unflinchingly into battle. The position gives rising leaders experience in command, and the longest-serving Lieutenants of the Dark Angels are presented with robes and cowls – the austere markings of a veteran amongst the descendants of the First Legion.

Within the hierarchy, the Dark Angels were divided into six specialised divisions:

  • Deathwing : The bulk of the 1st Company was composed of Terminator Squads, indefatigable warriors who blast apart their enemies with storm bolters while advancing into assault range The highest-ranking members of the 1st Company’s Inner Circle are sometimes accompanied by a Command Squad from the 1st Company. Such a hand-picked formation of the most veteran Deathwing Terminators makes a formidable unit, ideal for a bodyguard or to be assigned special duties.
  • Ravenwing :
  • Dreadwing :

Among the forces of the Dark Angels included:

  • Interrogator-Chaplains : lent and intense, watching constantly for any sign of weakness or heresy from their brothers, the Interrogator-Chaplains of the Dark Angels are not like the Chaplains of other Chapters. Every one has learned the grim secret gnawing at the heart of the Dark Angels’ history, and has become a shadow of their former self, capable of impassively administering the most shattering agonies to those from whom they would force repentance. The Fallen must be saved, by any means necessary.
  • Deathwing Knights : an imposing sight, for in them lives on some semblance of the Lion himself; they too embody silent strength and a veiled, yet palpable nobility. The Deathwing Knights stand resplendent in the iconography of the Dark Angels and Space Marines, as well as wing motifs, rivets, searchlights and studs. They are garbed in long robes, hold huge storm shields, and the weapons included are the Mace of Absolution, while the Knight Master holds the flail of the Unforgiven.

Vehicles used by the Dark Angels:

  • Attack Bikes :
  • Dreadnoughts :
  • Storm Speeders :
  • Rhino :
  • Vindicator :
  • Land Raider :
  • Nephilim Jetfighter : an interceptor that establishes air superiority of over the battlefield, allowing troops to concentrate on ground targets with little concern for aerial assaut.

Even in the fray, Azrael fights with decisive precision, decapitating enemies of the Unforgiven with every strike from the Sword of Secrets.
