Biography

Master of the Touch in Deadpool v10 #4.

Death Grip

He encountered Deadpool for the first time after beating him to killing Hénry Laponté. During a subsequent fight, Death Grip tore Deadpool in half and left him for dead. As he was leaving, Deadpool regenerated and stabbed him in the back. Surviving the attack and knocking down Deadpool, Death Grip left the scene pleasantly surprised that his opponent was immortal. Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Death Grip was a male human of considerable height and a muscular build with black hair, a heard and moustache. He often appears wearing dark robes or garments with mystical sigils. (Deadpool v10 #3)

Death Grip was cold, merciless, and utterly singular in purpose. He was not driven by fame or typical villainous ambition; rather, his obsession was with death—particularly Deadpool’s death—and the eradication of his regenerative immortality. He viewed healing not as a gift but as a mockery, something to be stripped away so that mortality could speak its true weight. His speech was ritualistic, filled with taunts that emphasized fate, decay, and the inevitability of death. He seemed to see himself as an instrument of cosmic law, one that Death itself might use to remind heroes that no one truly escapes mortality. His cruelty was not random; he appeared to believe what he was doing was necessary, even ordained. (Deadpool v10 #4)

According to Taskmaster, Death Grip had a body count almost as large as that of Deadpool. (Deadpool v10 #2)

Powers and abilities

A primary physical trait that defined his character was his superhuman strength, a powerful asset that was vividly displayed during his brutal confrontation with Deadpool. This was not the strength of a normal man, but rather an enhanced level of might that allowed him to physically dominate his regenerative opponent. He was capable of effortlessly tearing Deadpool's body apart, a feat that highlighted his immense raw power and established him immediately as a major threat who could bypass conventional durability. This strength was an inherent part of his imposing physical being, making his every strike impactful and deadly. (Deadpool v10 #1)

The Muramasa Blade became fused to his body in a ritual which allowed him to inflict wounds that bypassed healing factors making injuries permanent or non-regenerative. (Deadpool v10 #4)

It was shown that he was a leader of a cult of followers called the Touch. (Deadpool v10 #1)

Notes

The design for Deadpool v10 #2.
  • Death Grip was created by Cody Ziglar and Rogê Antônio where he made his first appearance in Deadpool v10 #1 (April, 2024).
  • On Comic Book.com, an interview with Ziglar:
"Without spoiling anything, Wade’s unkillable, he has a pretty laissez-faire attitude towards anything, and Death Grip is a character that has a unique approach to that stuff. He’s a guy that, we get into it later in this series, but he has studied the Mystic Arts, like a Doctor Strange-type academy. Only he failed out. He’s a mix of mystic with someone like Shang-Chi or some of Iron Fist’s abilities. Someone who has a touch of mystic abilities, but also martial arts prowess who has built a cult-like religion around the concept of chasing death and finding an avatar for death and what is more enticing to him than someone who is “unkillable.” A lot of the conflict is based around Death Grip trying to find this unkillable person and seeing what he can learn from someone who’s unkillable. If your pursuit in life is learning deadly martial arts, what better than practicing on someone who seemingly can’t be killed?"
