Deathstorm (Ronnie Raymond)

Ronnie Raymond was a Black Lantern Corps version of Firestorm that came to survive his initial destruction in the Blackest Night. He came to reside within the Firestorm Matrix and remained in hiding until he came to manifest himself in his own body. At the time, Martin Stein had been conducting tests on Ronnie Raynmond and Jason Rusch where he determined that the Firestorm Matrix was a spark for the Big Bang that could threaten to end all of existence. He determined that the trigger would be agitated emotions at which point Deathstorm emerged and intended to torture Raymond and Rusch in order to bring about the end of the universe. Deathstorm (Martin Stein)

Martin Stein was an inhabitant of Earth-3 which was a world where the alignment of many individuals was reversed with this version of the character being a mad scientist who was obsessed with finding the secret of life through death. Professor Stein was noted to had conducted countless human experiments on the homeless with him later being recruited by an organisation who wanted him to find weaknesses amongst the members of the Crime Syndicate of America. Stein instead used the resources he gained to bind himself into a corpse thus gaining superhuman abilities as he became Deathstorm. Sometime afterwards, it was noted that he came to join the ranks of the Crime Syndicate itself where he offered his scientific expertise to the supervillain team. (Justice League v2 #26)
Overview
In appearance, Deathstorm was a humanoid being that resembled Firestorm tough the most distinctive feature was his skull-like face. (Brightest Day v1 #11)
He was shown to be capable of absorbing others killing them in the process and taking their knowledge. (Brightest Day v1 #11)
Notes
- The concept of Deathstorm was created by Geoff Johns, Peter Tomasi, Ivan Reis, Patrick Gleason and Joe Prado where it made its first appearance in Brightest Day v1 #10 (November, 2010).
Alternate Versions
- In The Curse of Brimstone v1 #11 (2019), an alternate version of Deathstorm was shown to exist within the Dark Multiverse. This version was from a world where Ronnie Raymond and Jason Rusch died with Martin Stein using the Firestorm Matrix to bond with their corpses where he became a supervillain called Infernal. During the collapse of his reality, he looked to escape his world by creating a rift from the chaos.
In other media
Television
- In The Flash, Deathstorm appeared in the setting of the live-action television series set in the Arrowverse where he was portrayed by actor Robbie Amell. This version was the Earth-2 incarnation of Firestorm where he was a fusion of Ronnie Raymond and Martin Stein where they superpowered individual became a supervillain in their reality.
