History

Djinn (Japanese: ジン, Hepburn: Jin) were a race of mystical beings that were empowered by the magic of Rukh. Originally, they were all inhabitants of the prior world of Alma Torran until its destruction.

At Magnostadt, he Medium manifested and threatened to bring about global destruction to the world. In desperation, the Magi Aladdin called upon the Djinns of Alibaba Saluuja, Kouha Ren and Kouen Ren to manifest to warn their users about the great threat. During the exchange, he revealed the existence of a world that existed before the current one which was destroyed by the manifestation of the Black Rukh. Upon hearing this, Prince Kouen Ren became interested as his own research revealed that this world was the fabled Alma Torra and wanted to learn everything about it. Aladdin offered this knowledge in exchange for the Kou Empire's aid against the Medium with this being despite the advice from the Djinn who were forbidden to speak of the prior world to the inhabitants of this land.

Overview

In appearance, Djinn were a race of blue-skinned mystical beings that came in a variety of shapes and forms. To manifest, they were noted to require large quantities of magoi. It was said that Djinn should not be able to materialize on Earth but an exception was made if they were summoned by a Magi. In contrast, Magicians and Djinn were said to hold a bad affinity with one another with their respective magics interfering with one another. As a result, magicians were not capable of becoming a King's Vessel or a Household Member.

Upon surviving a Dungeon, an individual was capable of being chosen by the Djinn that ruled it. Those selected were thus known as Dungeon Capturers (迷宮攻略者, Danjon Kōryakusha) and gained the treasures within the Dungeon along with the magical relics inside of it. In addition, the power of the Djinn could then reside in an item worn by the Dungeon Capturer with these being referred to as a Metal Vessels (金属器, Kinzoku Ki). This added the power of the Djinn to them allowing them to wield their magic. A Dungeon Capturer was capable of undergoing a Djinn Equip (魔装, Masō, "magic dress") where they were able to take the form of their Djinn and add to their power. Masters of Djinn Equip were able to utilise Extreme Magic (極大魔法, Kyokudai Mahō) that was the strongest magics available to them. The power of a Dungeon Capturer was said to be strong enough to conquer or destroy a country. Strong users were shown to effortlessly destroy mountains or rip them apart. However, the magic used by the user was only as strong as the supply of Magoi available.

A King's Vessel was capable of sharing the power of their Djinn with their closest allies and friends. These individuals thus had an object on their person that became a Household Vessel (眷属器, Kenzoku Ki). The user was capable of gaining more power by transforming into a more powerful state known as Assimilation (同化, Dōka). This saw the person fuse their self with that of the Household spirit of the Djinn that resided in the Meal Vessel. By doing so, the individual became more powerful but at the cost of sacrificing a piece of their humanity. This was proportional to the number of times they performed the techniques with the potential outcome being a complete assimilation of their consciousness with the Djinn and the heart of the person vanishing in the process. It was possible to achieve a half-assimilation state that afforded the person great power but it transformed their bodies into a non-human form on a permanent basis.

Djinn were generally forbidden from revealing the existence of the prior world of Alma Torran. This was because knowledge of the prior fate could change the fate of the new world and goes against the path set forth by King Solomon.

Their homes were the Dungeons (迷宮ダンジョン Danjon, literally meaning "Labyrinth") that were towers who were mystical realms tied to their respective Djinn. These realms were partially based in the new world created by Ugo and partially in the old world of Alma Torran. Upon reaching the Necropolis, one reaches the Alma Torran part of the dungeon where the treasure room was the site that was the room housing the Djinn itself. The Djinn had complete control of the Dungeon and could shape it according to their desire. The high concentrations of rukh within the dungeon allowed them to easily manifest inside this realm. According to Amon, a Djinn should not materialize in the world but they will make an exception if summoned by a Magi.
