Biography
Origin
Doctor Neo Cortex was a yellow-skinned humanoid who spent his youth as the youngest son in a family of circus clowns. His people loved the spotlight and making people laugh but he himself preferred to spend his time reading science books. This resulted in him being teased by others and when he was 3 years old a particularly evil group of circus performers tattooed his head with the letter 'N' or 'nerd'. Sometime afterwards, a freak explosion was responsible for killing his entire family leaving him the only survivor. At some point, Cortex came to enrol at Madame Amberley's Academy of Evil that was a school for evil children.
One year later, Cortex was seen with his new partner in the form of the cyborg named Doctor N. Gin, and has just finished building a new Cortex Vortex in space. The crystal that Cortex found in the cavern turned out to be a Master Crystal, but N. Gin informs him that they will need 25 slave crystals to harness the power of the "solar flux" which Cortex needs to enslave the human race. None of his former henchmen on Earth can help him now, so he locates Crash and warps him to a Warp Room where a holographic Cortex tricks Crash into getting the crystals for him with a promise that he is using it for good purposes to stop the planets aligning. He sometimes drops hints of his real plan as Coco Bandicoot starts hacking into the hologram and tries to tell Crash what's really going on. By the time Coco finally tells Crash, he has already given the crystals to Cortex. Crash then fights Cortex in space with jet packs, attempting to stop him from reaching the Cortex Vortex. The evil scientist loses once again and blasts off into outer space yelling "You haven't seen the last of me, Crash Bandicoot!". However, the Cortex Vortex is still in space, so after Crash collects all the gems, Dr. Nitrus Brio helps blow it up with a laser cannon. However, a part of it falls towards Earth and destroys a temple, freeing an evil mask.

Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Doctor Neo Cortex was a short yellow skinned man with a large head that had black hair on a flat top and a large 'N' on his forehead. He sported a goatee, bushy eyebrows and hair only at the top of his head and going around the back of it with two large twirls at each side of it. For attire, he wears a white lab-coat with what appears to be a black leotard underneath and yellow gloves. For some reason, he also has a dolphin tattoo on his left thigh.
It was said that his early years were responsibly for moulding him into a wretched creature and Mad Scientist in the present.
It was his high intellect that made him believe that he was the logical choice to control the world. He was often ridiculed by the scientific community for his outlandish yet nearly workable theories.
However, he was frequently frustrated by the inferior mentality and failures of his underlings.
Because of his child-like behavior, Cortex can be extremely obstreperous, pompous, loud and boastful, as well as unable to tolerate any form of delays and failures. He is also known to have a temper, which he can sometimes lose if things don't go his way, and can get so bad that he will even engage in a physical brawl with his tormentors, regardless of the situation. For the most part, Cortex doesn't care about anyone else but himself, with the exception of his niece Nina. But after she betrayed him and took over his plans to destroy Wumpa Island, he cast her off to Public School of Evil as punishment, showing that he is still highly selfish and vengeful. Also, it's unlikely that he regrets replacing her hands with bionic replacements.
Cortex avoided physical combat and rationalized his cowardice by claiming that such engagement were beneath him.
Cortex is not above lying to get whatever he wants, such as when he manipulated Crash Bandicoot into collecting Power Crystals so he could enslave all life on Earth. His lying also applies to feeding his own ego, such as when he proudly stole N. Brio's credit for inventing the Evolvo-Ray, only to admit the truth to Crash. Cortex was not above betraying his master Uka Uka, whom he initially feared, and would go on to have him captured and drained of his Bad Mojo for his plans. Through many of his actions, Cortex is displayed as a sadistically power-hungry and psychopathic megalomaniac, willing to ruin any form of life for his own selfish purposes. Throughout the series, Cortex becomes more and more obsessed with destroying Crash Bandicoot for constantly ruining his plans, bursting into tantrums whenever he is beaten.
Powers and abilities
He was noted to possess an outrageously high intelligence quotient.
The gene mutating Evolvo-Ray was intended to created super-intelligent animal minions to serve him.
