Biography

Pre-Crisis

Ub'x

Doctor Ub'x was a highly malevolent, power-hungry alien mad scientist and the tyrannical dictator of the planet H'lven in Space Sector 1014. Driven by an insatiable desire for conquest, he successfully overthrew and enslaved his home world's peaceful population, assuming absolute control until a local resistance movement led by the rodent-like fighter Ch'p opposed his regime. After crushing the rebellion, Ub'x sentenced Ch'p to public execution, but his plans were thwarted when the Guardians of the Universe intervened and selected the rebel leader to become a Green Lantern. Overpowered and defeated by Ch'p's new cosmic abilities, Ub'x was cast out of power, sparking a bitter, lifelong vendetta against the Green Lantern Corps. Operating from the shadows, he meticulously engineered a trap by tracking down Ch'p's secret identity and kidnapping his girlfriend, M'nn'e, forcing the hero to surrender his mystical Power Ring under the threat of feeding her to a pack of predatory B'Gul Bears. (Green Lantern Corps v1 #203)

Time and time again Ub'x attacked Ch'p to test his abilities. One day, he learned his secret identity and kidnapped Ch'p's girlfriend, M'nn'e, demanding the Green Lantern to give up his ring to save her. Ch'p tricked him and saved M'nn'e, thwarting Ub'x's plan. Since there are no cages in H'lven, Ch'p allowed his enemy to be free. Dr. Ub'x retreated to his well-guarded fortress to hatch a new plot. (Green Lantern Corps v1 #203)

Post-Crisis

Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Doctor Ub'x was a short, vaguely humanoid bipedal alien rodent who belonged to the native H'lvenite species. He possessed a physical build entirely reminiscent of a woodland chipmunk or squirrel, covered in dark brown fur with a lighter, cream-coloured underbelly and a thick, bushy tail. His facial features were defined by prominent whiskers, a black twitching nose, sharp rodent teeth, and deep, dark eyes that reflected a calculating and sinister nature. Deviating entirely from traditional cosmic armor or heroic uniforms, Ub'x dressed in a lavish, regal ensemble designed to project his status as a ruthless galactic conqueror. He wore a heavy, high-collared ceremonial red military dress coat with gold-trimmed lapels and epaulets over a dark undershirt, paired with matching red trousers and a prominent, wide-brimmed red commanding officer's cap. (Green Lantern Corps v1 #203) He came to operate under the identities of Polestar and as Truk. (Green Lantern Corps v1 #202)

He claimed that he was one of Ch'p's oldest foes and once was determined to destroy the Green Lantern Corps. (Green Lantern Corps v1 #202)

Powers and abilities

Doctor Ub'x possessed a super-genius level of scientific and tactical intellect, enabling him to construct advanced tracking devices, develop complex tactical strategies, and successfully subjugate entire planetary populations. Lacking inherent superhuman strength or magical prowess, he relied heavily on a specialized weapon of his own creation known as the Sucker Stick. This highly advanced, techno-mystic staff was engineered with the unique capability to directly counter, neutralize, and absorb the energy constructs produced by a Green Lantern's Power Ring. Through this weapon, he could safely contain highly concentrated energy blasts and immobilize cosmic peacekeepers in close-quarters combat. Additionally, his native H'lvenite physiology granted him exceptional agility, heightened reflexes, the physical dexterity to seamlessly scale vertical environments, and sharp claws capable of delivering close-range slashes.
