Biography

Origin

The Heavenly Yaksha Donquixote Doflamingo.

Donquixote Doflamingo (Japanese: ドンキホーテ・ドフラミンゴ, Hepburn: Donkihōte Dofuramingo) was a male human born as the son of Donquixote Homing and was the older brother of Donquixote Rosinante who was born two years after him. As a member of the Donquixote Family, the Doflamingo's were one of the twenty royal families that formed the World Government and moved to Mary Geoise. When Doflamingo was 8 years old, his father, Homing, chose to cease being a World Noble and live a normal, but still somewhat well-off, life along with his wife and two children. After moving to an unknown northern country, Doflamingo was still accustomed to his old lifestyle as a World Noble and arrogantly expected the commoners to bow for him. Despite his father renouncing his World Noble title, the people who they tried to live among resented them due to their longstanding hatred for the World Nobles. Subsequently, the people of the country persecuted him and his family. They burned down their mansion and drove the family into a makeshift shack on a junk pile, forcing the children to eat out of garbage cans out of desperation. When Homing called the World Nobles for their help, only to be rejected, Doflamingo overheard this and was silent with shock. Sometime later, Doflamingo's mother died from illness, due to the deplorable household they were forced into.

Around 10 years ago, the 31 year old Doflamingo started building his powerful reputation by stealing money from the World Nobles and blackmailing the World Government to attain the position as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. One night, Doflamingo appeared at Dressrosa in Riku Doldo III’s chambers. After Riku recognized him as a descendant of the Donquixote Family and commented on his feats as a pirate, Doflamingo stated his demand which was a 10 billion Beli fee until the dawn of the next day in exchange for leaving the country alone. To avoid war, Riku Doldo decided to agree to the demand and went out begging the citizens of the kingdom for the money to pay off Doflamingo. Just as the money was being gathered, Doflamingo, from behind the scenes, used his Devil Fruit ability to control Riku and made him rampage in the city of Sebio. As panic and confusion spread throughout the kingdom, Doflamingo proceeded to take control of the soldiers as well, making them attack innocent civilians against their will. As he gleefully watched from the shadows, Doflamingo and his top three subordinates waited for the right moment to step in and act as heroes in the eyes of Dressrosa's citizens. While Doflamingo continued to control Riku Doldo III, his subordinates managed to take control of the castle with the help of an inside spy named Monet and also took princess Viola hostage. Once the citizens' trust for their king was shattered and they gave in to despair, Doflamingo, Diamante, Pica and Trebol appeared and defeated the king and his army, passing themselves off as heroes and setting the grounds for the Donquixote Pirates' takeover of the island. He then held Doldo captive at the palace. When Kyros arrived to confront Doflamingo, he told the former gladiator that he had sent subordinates to kill his wife and child. When Doflamingo was about to execute Doldo, Kyros attempted to attack him, losing his leg and getting transformed into a toy by Sugar in the process. Despite this, Kyros managed to escape the palace with Doldo.

After that night, Doflamingo ascended to the throne. He claimed that the former king was responsible for making Dressrosa a poor country and promised wealth to the citizens. In the meantime, he had his subordinates hunt down anyone with an affiliation to the previous king. Because he found Viola's Devil Fruit ability to be useful, he spared Riku Doldo's life on the condition that she would aid the Donquixote Pirates. With the castle bearing his smiley, the Donquixote Pirates used the island as their base. Doflamingo used his weapon trading to instigate wars by supplying arms to various factions including the enemies of the Kano Country. Doflamingo, using Sugar's Devil Fruit ability, turned those who opposed him into living toys, erasing their past and making the people close to them forget who they were. In addition, he enacted two laws that created segregation between humans and toys. At some point, the Bellamy Pirates came to swear their allegiance to Doflamingo, and were permitted to use his Jolly Roger.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Donquixote Doflamingo was a male human who was very tall light blond-haired, very lean and muscular man with tan skin. Within the criminal underworld, he was known by his alias of Joker (ジョーカー, Jōkā?) where he was a notorious broker. His status as a World Noble and his sadistic nature also led to him being known by the epithet of Heavenly Yaksha (天夜叉, Ten Yasha?, English versions: "Heavenly Demon").

When he was 8 years old, he had the spoiled and violent attitude typical of a Celestial Dragon, wanting slaves and expecting subservience from commoners. He also had a habit of ending his sentences with 'eh' as a result of being around Celestial Dragons who spoke with this speech pattern, which eventually disappeared when he was brought out of that atmosphere and his ties and values from his former life were slowly broken. Even after his father took him away from such a life of luxury, Doflamingo clung onto his heritage, believing he still has the rights of his lost origins, complaining that he did not want to live inside a rundown shack even though they were being hunted, and resents his father to this day for taking it all away from him. Doflamingo's arrogance stems from his heritage and he hypocritically states that what he despises the most is being looked down upon, while looking down on the world of commoners that he has been condemned to living in to this day. He believes that his suffering from his father's choice is greater than anything anyone else has suffered, as he deems those instances as child's play compared to his own miserable childhood.

Being a member of the Donquixote Family makes Doflamingo a descendant of one of the twenty kings who founded the World Government 800 years ago, and thus, a World Noble.

Powers and abilities

Doflamingo came to be trained in the use of Haki (覇気, Haki). He was one of the very few people in the world who can use all three types of Haki. This included Supreme King Haki (覇王色の覇気, Supreme King Haki) that was a rare form of Haki that only one in several million people in the world can use. He was a capable user of it as demonstrated when he managed to knock out a large group of people with it. Doflamingo's Supreme King Haki first awakened when he was around ten years old when he was tortured by a mob set to kill him, his brother and father. The manifestation of this power knocked out the entire mob thus saving Doflamingo's life.

He came to eat the Ito Ito no Mi (イトイトの実, String-String Fruit) that was a Paramecia (超人パラミシア系, Paramishia-kei) type Devil Fruit (悪魔の実, Akuma no Mi) that granted him the ability to create and manipulate strings. As a String Human (糸人間, Ito Ningen?), it gave him the power to generate and control white, wafer-thin, razor-sharp strings attachable to seemingly any surface and even to control people's bodies like puppets by using some form of psychokinesis.

Among the techniques known to him included:

  • Parasite (寄生糸パラサイト, Parasaito?, literally meaning "Parasite String") :
  • Sora no Michi (空の道, Sora no Michi?, literally meaning "Sky's Path") :
  • Goshikito (五色糸ゴシキート, Goshikīto?, literally meaning "Five Color Strings") :
  • Overheat (超過鞭糸オーバーヒート, Ōbāhīto?, literally meaning "Excess Whip String") :
  • Tamaito (弾糸タマイト, Tamaito?, literally meaning "Bullet String") :
  • Black Knight (影騎糸ブラックナイト, Burakku Naito?, literally meaning "Shadow Knight String") :

Doflamingo was one of the rare few Devil Fruit users who had achieved Awakening (覚醒, kakusei?). This granted him the power to transform non-living things in his surroundings into strings that he can freely manipulate.

As a result of his parentage, Donquixote was a World Noble making him one of the Celestial Dragons (天竜人, Tenryūbito?, literally meaning "Heavenly Dragon Folk") that comprised the leadership of the World Government.

Doflamingo came to be the captain of the Donquixote Pirates (ドンキホーテ海賊団, Donkihōte Kaizoku-dan). They also operated a crime family and thus were also known as the Donquixote Family (ドンキホーテファミリー, Donkihōte Famirī?).
