Dory Bernheim

Dory Bernheim was a skeptical Chicago auto mechanic. When he heard talk of a creature living in the sewers, he dismissed it as nonsense. However when he heard screams coming from the school not far from his garage, and saw the clone, he grabbed a blowtorch and charged into the school to rescue the students. He began burning the clone tissue and freed several students trapped in their classroom. One boy told him of more children trapped in another class elsewhere.

Dory went and got the kids and their teacher, Mr. Lucarno, out of the classroom and began herding them toward the exit, only to discover that in the time since Dory came to rescue them, the clone started to flow over and block the front door. His blowtorch out of fuel, Dory told them to run for it, but most of them didn't make it. This included Dory and three boys. With the clone closing in, Dory grabbed the most terrified of the children and held onto him as they both were absorbed.
