The Dragon Ring is an artifact that features in Dracula 2: The Last Sanctuary video game.

History

The Dragon Ring was an ancient artifact that dated to 15th century where it became the symbol of power for the kingdom of Dracul. At the time, Dracul possessed two sons who were half brothers of one another; the elder being known as Vlad Tepes and the younger being a Romanian Prince called Lord Radu both of whom possessed a rivalry to one another. Before his death, Dracul was consulted by a magician by the name of Dorko who advised him to hand the Ring to his younger son. Thus, in the year 1442, following the death of Dracul, the Dragon Ring went into the hands of Lord Radu which was an act that infuriated his elder sibling Vlad Tepes. Taking the name Dracula, he pursued his brother and succeeded in capturing him whereupon he had Radu trapped within an underground prison. After banishing Dorko, Dracula's first act was separating a diamond present within the Dragon Ring which fell upon his evil influence with the whereabouts of the precious stone being lost to history.

In the aftermath of succeeding his father, Dracula decided to construct a structure that would become known as the Last Sanctuary that would serve as his safe retreat as well as haven for himself. Construction of this building fell to a monk by the name of Thadeus Alan who was also known as the Black Monk due to his involvement with satanic rites as well as rituals. There were at least three such chambers within the Last Sanctuary with tests made in the form of these initiation rooms that prevented the unworthy from entering the Last Sanctuary. Amongst the traps included "the Devils Claws" that tore intruders to pieces whilst the "hellfire room", also known as the "dragon room", incinerated those unworthy ones from entering the lair. Details of both the Dragon Ring and the Last Sanctuary were recorded within the writings of a former disciple of the Black Monk who was exiled for his actions and the fate of Thadeus Alan was not known. Written in a tome called the book of magic, this was passed on across the years with the symbol of the Ring before present on the books surface with Thadeus's former disciple even detailing methods to kill a vampire.

In the year 1904, Jonathan Harker rescued his wife Mina Harker from Dracula's Transylvanian castle where he managed to also steal the Dragon Ring from the Vampire Lord which led to them escaping back to London. However, Dracula quickly followed the couple back to England where he intended to reclaim both the Dragon Ring along with Mina Harker in order to make the Human woman his queen. Jonathan Harker later took the Ring to his friend Dr. Seward who managed to reconstruct parts of its history with Mina's help as she was responsible for transcribing the wax cylinders that were recorded by an historian friend of the doctors. They managed to determine some of the Ring's history and learn that Dracula would go to any lengths to reclaim it. In order to get the aid of Mr. Hopkins to save Mina, Jonathan Harker temporarily gave the Dragon Ring to the inmate who was a servant of Dracula but agreed to help him to save the woman's life. Harker's studies revealed that the Ring had the power of destroying Dracula.

Jonathan Harker managed to uncover the missing diamond from the writings of Lord Chamberlain Kazaan who hinted that the missing piece of the relic resided in the dead body of his master Lord Radu. Harker later met with Dorko the witch again and she explained to how on how to re-assemble the ancient relic by first telling him of the Dragon's Stele but later claimed her magic was strong enough to accomplish the task. However, before she cast her spell, she was impaled through the chest with a sword by one of Dracula's brides. Despite this being the case, Harker managed to reassemble the Dragon's Ring to its original form and placed it ont Dracula's throne which incapacitated him as well as eventually killed him seemingly ending the menace he posed to the world.

Overview

The ring resembled a golden dragonic serpent that encircled itself with its mouth pressed against its tale whilst curled around a stone. It was believed initially to be incomplete and required a diamond to be present in the center of the artifact. This part was believed to serve as a counterbalancing force to the evil side of the ring. The two individual parts of the Ring alone were powerful but when assembled, they were powerful enough to destroy a being like Dracula forever. In order to re-assemble the Dragon Ring, a ritual stated that this was only accomplished by bringing them together at the Dragon Stele which itself was located in Dracula's Final Sanctuary. Whilst one way of re-assembling the relic, powerful magicians such as Dorko were able to cast spells to accomplish such a feat.
