Dust Darters
Dust Darters are a species that appeared in Bionicle (Generation 1).
History
The Brotherhood of Makuta used liquid Protodermis and Viruses to create the Dust Darter species as part of their mission to create Rahi to inhabit the Matoran Universe. (BIONICLE: Makuta's Guide to the Universe, p.63)
Dust Darters settled in the realm of Karzahni and sustained themselves on the metallic protodermis of the realm's inhabitants. (BIONICLE World, p.25)
When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, the surviving Dust Darters emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna. (Official Greg Discussion)
Overview
Like all Rahi created by the Brotherhood of Makuta, Dust Darters were biomechanical creatures whose bodies were composed of both organic and protodermic elements. Dust Darters were so named because they were around the same size as a speck of dust; barely visible to the naked eye. A swarm of Dust Darters would also appear as nothing more than a cloud of dust, which disguised them from potential predators. Dust Darters fed on the metallic protodermis of Karzahni's inhabitants, weakening the integrity of the metal imperceptibly over time. Matoran who noticed Dust Darters often swatted them, creating clanging noises that could be heard across Karzahni. (BIONICLE World, p.25)
