Biography

Lady Elise Kythera Zaavan was female noblewoman born in Noxus where she was the daughter of House Kythera that were an old and powerful family of the Runeterra nation. She quickly learnt that beauty had a power capable of influencing the weak-minded. Though she maintained outward appearances of a loyal noblewoman, she spent her time orchestrating schemes to strengthen her household’s standing. Her activities included securing alliances through deceit and exploiting the weaknesses of rivals, all while maintaining her reputation as a beautiful and untouchable figure within Noxian high society. Beneath this facade, however, she was already drawn to darker practices, finding satisfaction in bending others to her will and in the subtle power she could exert through charm and fear. Upon coming of age, she plotted the marry the scion of House Zaavan in order to increase her own family's power. However, many within House Zaavan opposed this match but Elise beguiled her intended husband where she manipulated her detractors in order to secure the betrothal. As planned, her influence upon her new husband proved considerable where the rise of House Zaavan increased her own House Kythera's power. Her husband was the face of his house but knew that his wife was the one who truly wielded power. At first, he tolerated Elise's manipulations but in time discontent came to fester in him as he became the source of jokes among the Noxian families.

Her fateful transformation began when she ventured into the Shadow Isles in search of greater strength. There she encountered the ancient spider god that lurked deep within its cursed jungles. Rather than being consumed, Elise offered herself willingly, embracing the entity’s corruption. In return, she was transformed into a hybrid of woman and spider, with supernatural vitality and terrifying new powers. From that moment on, Elise’s activities centered on serving the spider god’s hunger, luring unsuspecting victims to their doom under the pretense of beauty, sanctuary, or seduction, before delivering them as sacrifices in exchange for her own continued immortality. As the Spider Queen, Elise’s daily activities became an endless cycle of predation and worship. She prowled Noxus and the Shadow Isles alike, weaving webs of deception to draw followers, acolytes, and prey into her service. Some were sacrificed outright, while others became ensnared in her cult, worshipping both her and the spider god she served. She actively cultivated an aura of divine fear, ensuring her name was spoken with dread among those who whispered of the Shadow Isles’ horrors. These actions solidified her not only as a predator in the physical sense, but also as a manipulator who fed on the weakness and faith of mortals.

After Elise established her web of influence within the decaying opulence of the Shadow Isles, she transformed into a high priestess of deceit who bridged the gap between the mortal world and the necrotic realm. She struck a dark bargain with the Vilemaw, a monstrous arachnid deity lurking in the depths of the islands, trading the lives of the innocent for the preservation of her own unnatural youth and power. Returning periodically to Noxus, she adopted the guise of a reclusive and elegant noblewoman, using her intoxicating beauty and the promise of forbidden secrets to lure the ambitious and the desperate into her inner circle. She meticulously handpicked her victims from the elite of Noxian society, inviting them on perilous expeditions to the Shadow Isles under the pretense of recovering lost artifacts or achieving immortality. Once they reached the mist-shrouded shores, Elise led them deep into the heart of the spider-god’s lair, where she watched with cold detachment as her "guests" were ensnared and drained of their life force. Through these cyclical sacrifices, she maintained her exquisite form and deepened her connection to the spider-god, becoming a terrifying hybrid of predator and socialite who thrived on the very souls she harvested in the gloom.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Elise was a tall and unnaturally beautiful woman whose elegance concealed her monstrous nature. She had alabaster skin, flowing dark hair, and piercing red eyes that glowed faintly with the curse of the Shadow Isles. Her body bore faint spider-like markings, and her back carried limbs that could unfurl into arachnid appendages when she chose to reveal her true form. When fully transformed, her beauty gave way to terror as her body twisted into that of a spider hybrid, with sharp claws, elongated limbs, and venomous fangs prepared to strike.

Elise’s personality was defined by cruelty, vanity, and predatory hunger. She was calculating and manipulative, delighting in deception and in the destruction of those who trusted her allure. Her sense of superiority was absolute—mortals existed to feed her god and prolong her own eternal beauty. Though capable of feigned warmth and seduction, these traits were merely tools for her predation. Her loyalty was not to Noxus nor to humanity, but only to her spider god and to the eternal youth and power it bestowed upon her.

Powers and abilities

Elise possessed supernatural abilities granted by her transformation. She could seamlessly shift between human and spider forms, gaining both the agility and strength of her monstrous half. Her spider form allowed her to climb walls, leap upon prey, and inject venom through her fangs, while she could summon swarms of spiderlings to overwhelm and devour her victims. Her human form gave her the deceptive beauty and grace needed to lure targets, while her resilience made her far more difficult to kill than an ordinary mortal. This duality of charm and monstrous ferocity made her one of the deadliest predators tied to the Shadow Isles.

After her transformation was complete, Elise possessed a dual nature that allowed her to manipulate both the physical and magical properties of arachnoid biology with terrifying precision. She commanded a potent, neurotoxic venom that did not merely kill, but acted as a conduit for her dark sorcery, capable of paralyzing a victim’s nervous system while simultaneously dissolving their very soul to fuel her rejuvenation. Beyond her biological lethality, she exerted a supernatural dominion over the lesser brood-kin of the Shadow Isles, summoning swarms of skittering spiderlings that functioned as an extension of her own consciousness and shared her insatiable hunger. This psychic link extended to her environment, as she learned to weave "silk" infused with the dark mist of the Isles, creating webs that were virtually invisible to the naked eye and strong enough to bind even the most powerful warriors. Her most unsettling ability, however, was the seamless fluidity with which she could reorganize her physical form; she could retract her human visage entirely, her bones cracking and reforming as she descended from the shadows in her true, multi-limbed shape. In this state, she moved with an unnatural, skittering speed that defied the laws of gravity, allowing her to stalk her prey from the ceilings of lightless caverns before cocooning them in a fate far worse than a simple death.

She came to be a member of the Noxian Black Rose secret society.
