Sarya

In the mid-30th century, she came to find an ancient map that directed her to the Crypt of the Eye on Venegar. Whilst there, she found a green pedestal where rested the Emerald Eye of Ekron which offered near unlimited power. Claiming it, Sarya decided to use it as a means of achieving her ambitions and thus became the Emerald Empress. In time, she came to take over her homeworld and ruled to the point her tyranny caused the people to rise in rebellion. Ultimately, Sarya decided to to flee into outer space where she began to loot space merchants to help bankroll an army that she intended to gather. With the Eye beside her, the Emerald Empress quickly became the most wanted female criminal in the history of the universe. (Adventure Comics v1 #352)

When the Legion of Super-Heroes first confronted the Fatal Five, the Emerald Empress immediately unleashed the full force of the Emerald Eye of Ekron. She used the Eye to project powerful emerald energy blasts, blasting through the Legion’s defenses and scattering their forces. At one point, she surrounded Saturn Girl in an energy field, trapping her until other Legionnaires forced her to release her. She also lifted and hurled massive debris telekinetically with the Eye, destabilizing the battlefield and forcing the Legion into a defensive position. (Adventure Comics v1 #352) She continued her assault against the Legion when the Fatal Five clashed with them again. She used the Eye to generate an enormous energy shield that blocked Superboy’s attacks and nullified Ultra Boy’s attempts to overpower her. During the battle, she projected emerald chains to bind Lightning Lad, holding him immobilized until the Eye’s grip was broken. She also turned the Eye into a floating battering ram, sending it crashing through walls and scattering groups of Legionnaires who attempted to regroup. Her offensive use of the Eye pushed the Legion into retreat multiple times throughout the fight. (Adventure Comics v1 #353)

The Emerald Empress attacked Metropolis alongside the Fatal Five. She used the Eye to levitate an entire city bus into the air, threatening to drop it onto the streets below until Superman intervened. She unleashed sustained energy beams to keep Superman occupied, forcing him to block them with wreckage while she turned the Eye on civilian targets. Even when Superman countered her blasts, she used the Eye to teleport herself to new positions and keep him off balance. Ultimately, the Eye’s destructive power tested even Superman’s ability to contain her threat. Superman v1 #147)

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Emerald Empress was usually depicted as a tall, striking woman with long green hair and glowing green eyes that reflected her bond with the Emerald Eye of Ekron. Her costume traditionally consisted of a green, flowing bodysuit or dress-like armor with a plunging neckline, thigh-high boots, and a tiara or headpiece, all styled to emphasize her regal and menacing presence. The Eye itself floated beside her, a massive orb of glowing green energy with a central iris, tethered to her by a mystical connection. (Adventure Comics v1 #352)

In personality, Emerald Empress was depicted as ruthless, ambitious, and sadistic. She displayed a cruel streak in battle, often targeting enemies’ weaknesses or using hostages to gain the upper hand. She was confident in her power, fully aware that the Eye made her one of the most dangerous individuals in the galaxy, and she used this confidence to intimidate both foes and allies. At times, she displayed manipulative tendencies, using her allure and cunning to control situations as much as her raw power. Though a team member of the Fatal Five, she often sought her own advantage above loyalty to her allies. (Adventure Comics v1 #352)

She was regarded as the most wanted female criminal in the history of the universe. It was said that she was guilty of every crime from murder to space-piracy. (Adventure v1 #352)

Powers and abilities

In powers, Emerald Empress’s abilities came entirely from her bond with the Emerald Eye of Ekron, a sentient mystical artifact of immense power. The Eye granted her the ability to project devastating energy blasts capable of leveling cities, generate force fields strong enough to withstand Kryptonian attacks, and manipulate objects telekinetically with incredible precision. She could create constructs, restrain foes with chains of emerald energy, or hurl massive objects across battlefields. The Eye also granted her flight, teleportation across great distances, and resistance to psychic intrusion. Beyond its destructive abilities, the Eye provided her with a link to cosmic and magical forces that made her unpredictable in combat. (Adventure Comics v1 #352)

In one case, Emerald Empress was shown to had snapped Sun Boy's jaw with a simple squeeze of her hand. (Legion of Super-Heroes v2 #303)
