History

The Eternity Mask was a mask-like fabric that was created from the very being of Eternity himself who was the embodiment of the universe. In the age of Camelot, a group of renegade occultists created the mask that allowed a peasant to be the equal of King Arthur's Knights. (Marvel Comics v1 #1000)

Around 1500 years ago, the hidden guild came to place the Eternity Mask on their champion of the era where it was given to a commoner. At the time, the tales of the guild drew the attention of Sir Percy of Scandia who was sent to investigate the matter. Wielding the Ebony Blade, he encountered the guild's champion where the two fought for three days until his foe was killed. However, Sir Percy was too weakened from the fight to stop the recovery of the Eternity Mask by the guild of warlocks who departed the scene. (Marvel Comics v1 #1000)

Over 139 years ago, the mask came to be worn by Jim Gardley who operated as a vigilante called the Masked Raider. He came to be a legendary champion of the poor and oppressed where the Eternity Mask sustained him in his fights. (Marvel Comics v1 #1000)

It was said that Benjamin Franklin harnessed the magic of the mask to help win the revolution and free the people from kings for all of time. (Marvel Comics v1 #1000)

Around 75 years ago, Project: Thunder had been initiated by the Scientist Guild where a ceremony was being conducted to bond the mask to a host. At the time, Project Rebirth was being tested in order to test the Super-Soldier Serum on a volunteer for use in the war. The result of this experiment was said to had been responsible for the creation of the Thunderer. With it, the new hero came to use its power to help fight those who intended to rule the world.
