The Eye of God was claimed to had been the creation of an ancient civilization that once ruled El-Hazard. Legends spoke that two civilizations once fought one another long ago in an apocalyptic holy war. (The Magnificent World) In that time, the Eye was created with Ifurita being made for this singular purpose of operating the machine to extinguish the world. She was created to control the machine during the ancient battles and once she received the order then she was tasked with causing El-Hazard to vanish into the darkness between divergent spaces. (The Wanderers) During the battle, the Eye of God was activated ages ago by the people of El-Hazard which dragged the Phantom Tribe from a far dimension into the El-Hazard. The myths spoke that the ancient civilizations of El-Hazard ultimately destroyed one another in their holy war with their conflict being regarded as legends. Amongst the only fact known from that period was that the Eye had been used and legends spoke of it being used once more in a holy apocalypse. According to these portents of doom, the Eye of God would blink once more whereupon the path of the sky would open which would lead to the shadow nation becoming one. As a result, this machine became known as a legendary doomsday weapon and its control was said to reside in two princesses of royal birth who would become united as one. (The Magnificent World)

Background

In form, the design of the Eye of God resembled that of a gigatic metallic orb which was situated in geosychronous orbit in the planet's atmosphere. It was in actuality a dimensional weapon that was able to send its targets into a vortex that deposited them into an unknown destination.

The Eye of God was a weapon created to control dimensions. (The Magnificent World) This device's system allowed it to destroy space and seemingly return everything to a state of nihilism which was accomplished by causing targets to vanish into the darkness between divergent spaces. Once it reached a critical stage, the process was not capable of being stopped. However, it was possible to release the energy of the subspace power reactor into a different space which was speculated to be a method of stopping the Eye. However, to do so, an individual needed to serve as a catalyst to guide this energy into another world. (The Wanderers)

It was claimed that the only people that could control the Eye were those that held the Mark of the King. (The Wanderers) All legends known to the people of El-Hazard spoke of the Eye of God as a powerful doomsday weapon. (The Magnificent World)
