History

The Eye of the Midnight Sun.

The Eye of the Midnight Sun (Japanese: 白夜の魔眼, Hepburn: Byakuya no Magan) was a criminal organization consisting of rogue magic users who were sworn enemies of the Clover Kingdom. It was claimed that the terror group had formed around six years ago where they sought to establish their own kingdom. The origins of the group were traced to the long dead Elf tribe that once inhabited the world until their extermination. However, one of their number was reincarnated in the body of a human child named William Vangeance. He then sought to resurrect his people and get revenge against humanity for the perceived crimes against his people. As a result, he secretly formed the Eye of the Midnight Sun where he found searched for Elves that had been reincarnated in human bodies and also set about restoring their memories along with true power.

Patolli will later hire the services of Valtos, Sally and Rades Spirito, who help him acquire humans to reincarnate his friends Rhya, Fana and Vetto. Due to his own contempt for humans and the trio's treacherous nature, Patolli will secretly mark Valtos, Sally and Rades while falsely assuring them they are going to ascend to their true forms. Soon enough, the Eye of the Midnight Sun will begin their goal to collect all the Magic Stones. They staged an attack on the Royal Capital of the Clover Kingdom with this spearheaded by Rades Spirito who utilised his Wraith Magic to create a horde of undead. The Eye removed the Magic Knight defenders by using spatial magic to displace them far outside the capital allowing for Rades to attack where he wanted revenge against the Knights. In reality, the attack was a big distraction in order to draw out Magic Knight Captain Fuegoleon Vermillion of the Crimson Lions so that he could be eliminated.

As part of their next plan, they dispatched Vetto alongside several soldiers to the Underwater Temple in order to claim the magic stone that resided there. Vetto's sheer magical power allowed him to effortlessly break through the powerful water magic spell that protected the site. He broke into the temple when the Black Bulls were locked in a contest with the temple guardians for a prize. Vetto showed no distinction between the two sides and battled both whilst he dispatched his men to find the stones as well as deal with any remaining resistance. It was his sheer power that outclassed all of his opponents but the unity along with tenacity of the Black Bulls ultimately proved victorious with Captain Yami slaying Vetto. Thus, he was defeated and the other members of his strike force were taken into custody by the Magic Knights. Vetto's defeat was considered a big loss for the Eye of the Midnight Sun who still waited for their leader Licht to awaken from his healing. They decided to attempt to claim another of the magic stones that was taken by the inhabitants of the Forest of the Witches. Rhya the Hateful led a force in attacking it to claim the magic stone leading to a confrontation with the Black Bulls and a military force from the Diamond Kingdom who sought to kidnap the Queen of the Witches.

Following the formation of the Royal Knights, the Clover Kingdom decided to use this new elite force to attack the headquarters of the Eye of the Midnight Sun. Thus, they transported themselves to the cult's headquarters where they infiltrated the large floating structure. Meanwhile, three of Eye of the Midnight Sun's members similarly staged an attack against the home of the Black Bulls in an effort to acquire the magic stones. Meanwhile, Licht in his host body of Captain Vangeance confronted the Wizard King and revealed his true nature. This led to a battle between the pair where initially Licht was unable to defeat his foe's time magic but he then decided to attack all the citizens in the capital instead. To save the people, Julus Novochrono used every bit of his magic to stop the attack which left him vulnerable to Licht who dealt a fatal blow against the wizard.

Overview

In appearance, the organization operated as a secret cult whose members typically masked their identities from others. Their symbol was that of a row of eyes that decorated their uniforms. The organization consisted largely of skill mages all of whom were able to cast various forms of magic. Some suspected that the members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun were descendants of elves because of their magic and their quest for the magic stones. Their number was said to be around 50 members and they were considered a terror group who were looking to establish their own kingdom. A goal of the members of the group was the acquisition of magic stones which they believed would allow them to conduct a ritual for them to ascend to their true form. Thus, they sought to transform themselves into beings with closer ties to the mana of the world. Unknown to anyone, the true form was actually the soul of slain members of the Elf tribe who took over the bodies of their human hosts. The human members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun were unaware of this and in fact were being used by Licht whereupon he intended to eliminate them after they had served their purpose as he despised humanity.

Members of the Eye of the Midnight Sun were shown to be deeply devoted to their leader Licht and shown to never betray him. The three strongest fighters within the group were referred to as the Third Eye (三魔眼サードアイ, Sādoai). The Eye of the Midnight Sun was said to number around 50 members all of whom were magic users. Those humans who join were given 'true names' (真の名, Makoto no Na) and were promised to be reborn into their 'true forms' (真の姿, Shin no Sugata). This ceremony was actually for marking them as sacrifices for a Reincarnation Magic spell. They also were known to have multiple informants within the Magic Knights some of whom were unwitting agents of the Eye of the Midnight Sun.

Whilst spread out across the lands, the Eye's central base of operations was a floating dungeon located in the Gravito Rock Zone. Within the dungeon was a network of tunnels, stairs, and chambers and there were several entrances to the outside, making it easy to infiltrate.
