History
Pre-Crisis
Feitherans were a race of avian beings who inhabited the planet Earth where they resided in the city of Feithera located in the frozen north. (Flash Comics v1 #71)
A pilot who blew off-course spotted Feithera, and reports of what he’d seen were met with skepticism. Carter Hall’s explorer’s club heard the news, and wanted to investigate for themselves, intending to hunt the Feitherans for sport, because they’d make much more challenging game than ordinary animals. Carter Hall was disgusted, telling the explorers that they could not invade a civilization and start killing people, but the club members brushed off his concern, saying birds were birds. Carter Hall changed into his mysteryman identity Hawkman and sent a hawk to Feitrhera to warn the Feitherans, while proclaiming that he’d act as their guardian. Hawkman met with Worla, the leader of the Feitherans, and he said that even though his people were a peaceful race dedicated to art and culture, they had a way to defend themselves, globlasses that disrupted the nervous system. Feitheran Trata, who sought to wrest control away from Worla, overheard the conversation, and decided to stage a coup with his few loyalists. He met the explorer’s club hunters, and used the globlass on them, but then provided them with absorbant lockets that counteracted the globlass in exchange for their loyalty. The hunters tried to hunt the Feitherans, but despite their immunity to the globlass, Hawkman made short work of them. Worla gave the hunters an overview of Feitheran advancements in culture, science and medicine, and they realized how wrong they’d been in wanting to hunt the Feitherans. They wanted the Feitherans to meet the learned men of the world, but Hawkman forbade it, saying other opportunists like the hunters would come along and try to exploit the Feitherans. Hawkman made the explorers swear secrecy about the Feitheran’s existence, but Trata, incensed that Hawkman had foiled his coup, chose that moment to attack. He shot Hawkman with the globlass, but Hawkman’s automated wings kept him on balance and he overpowered the traitor. Worla and the Feitherans feasted with Hawkman and the explorers in celebration of Feithera and the secret of its’ continued existence. (Flash Comics v1 #71)
Post-Crisis
Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. The Feitherans
Several members of Infinity Inc. prepared to make a trip to Feithera in order to drop off Solomon Grundy there. (Infinity Inc. v1 #4) Jade and Brainwave II would accompany Northwind back to his home in Feithera. Together with Solomon Grundy, they prevented a glacier from killing the inhabitants of the city before it gets destroyed. (Infinity Inc. v1 #23) Northwind during a visit back to his home city came to learn the terrible secret of Hector Hall and the ancient curse which afflicted him. (Infinity Inc. v1 #37)
The Feitherans would later come under a number of attacks by humanity. As a result, they left their home and relocating to keep as far away as they could from mankind. In this time, the avian race underwent a period of rapid evolution to survive. This resulted in the Feitherans becoming more bird than man, and lost the ability to speak. In this time, the Feitherans were looking for a home when Black Adam found them and took in Northwind, who became a member of Adam’s superteam. (JSA v1 #56)
Later on, the Feitherians moved to defended Khandaq from an attack by the Spectre-Force and the Eclispso host Jean Loring. Despite his efforts, Northwind was no match for the Spectre, who killed a number of the Feitherians. The Spectre was convinced to leave after Atom-Smasher nearly sacrificed his life to stop him. (JSA v1 #75)

Among the consequences of this transformation was they came to lose the ability to speak. (JSA v1 #56)

Some of their kind were noted to hold criminal tendencies. (Flash Comics v1 #71)
Feitherans wielded devices called a Globlass though they did not consider it to be a weapon. It was used to catch criminals where it had an unusual effect on a person's sense of balance. The delicate sense of balance at the base of the brain was shocked. (Flash Comics v1 #71)
