Origin

Ferdinand was a male minotaur who was said to had grown outside Kithira. (Wonder Woman v2 #195)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Ferdinand

Ferdinand had a long history as a friend and chef of Diana of Themyscira, but at some point he left Diana and her allies. Some years later he would be contacted by Steve Trevor and Eta Candy who recruited him to help bring Diana out of a crippling depression, which they succeeded in doing. (Wonder Woman v5 #17) Ferdinand would accompany Diana in a failed attempt to apprehend her enemy, Veronica Cale. (Wonder Woman v5 #19) He subsequently started working as a chef in the Hall of Justice where he earned a reputation for being able to replicate any dish in the world. (Justice League v4 #9) Diana would later introduce Ferdinand to another Minotaur named Eirene in order to help her and her friends settle into the human world after they a disaster banished them from Mount Olympus. (Wonder Woman v5 #63)

  • Ferdinand was created by Greg Rucka and Drew Johnson where he made his first appearance in Wonder Woman v2 #195 (October, 2003).
  • The character was named after the protagonist of "The Story of Ferdinand".

In other media

Films

  • In Wonder Woman: Bloodlines, Ferdinand appeared in the setting of the 2019 animated film where he was voiced by actor Michael Dorn. He was a minotaur enchanted and placed at the temple of PasiphaĆ« to guard the fountain whose waters allowed one to gain the knowledge on the location of Themyscira. Steve and Etta enter the maze in the temple, where they encounter and defeat a Minotaur. Diana also realized that the Minotaur was enchanted to defend the fountain, and destroyed it. By doing so, the Minotaur was set free with Steve naming it Ferdinand.
