Fiver

The younger brother of Hazel, Fiver lived with him at the Sandleford warren. Small for a buck, Fiver was regarded by pretty much everyone else as a useless runt, especially the Owsla officers, who seemed to enjoy pushing the smaller rabbit around. Unknown to anyone by Hazel however, was that Fiver had a strange gift; he was something of a psychic, but only when it came to predicting very, very bad things. After a horrifying vision that the nearby field was covered with blood, Fiver became certain that something truly awful was going to happen to Sandleford, and that all the rabbits needed to leave the warren.

He and Hazel managed to persuade a small number of other rabbits to accompany them, after getting clear of the Owsla (who had been sent by the Chief Rabbit to stop them). Of course, Fiver turned out to be right, and the warren was destroyed by human developers. Fiver remained an important character even once the rabbits had found their home on Watership Down; when Hazel was shot by a farmer and left for dead, it was Fiver who went out to look for his big brother, and when the Efrafans invaded their new home, it was Fiver who, during one of his fitful visions, gave Hazel the idea to lead a dog into the Efrafan Owsla's midst.

TV Series

Fiver's importance waned somewhat after the rabbits reached Watership Down. His powers were also somewhat more varied - he was no longer limited to merely foretelling disasters, and could also see into the minds of other rabbits. Both of these were clearly demonstrated when he predicted that only he and Hazel could get into Efrafa to talk with Woundwort, and when he looked into Woundwort's mind while they were there and saw his past, most notably the death of his mother. Some of these abilities were shared by Silverweed.
