Biography
Flexo was the name of an artificial life form created in the 1940's by the scientists Joel Williams and Joshua Williams. (Mystic Comics v1 #1) Its origins were traced to a meteor that crashed on Earth that contained a Symbiote. The Williams brothers came to uncover this substance and began experiments on what they deemed to be 'live rubber'. They came to determine that it fed on adrenaline and phenethylamine where it was capable of growing in size. The pair were able to sculpt the Symbiote matter into the form of a humanoid robot that they intended to fight crime and right wrongs that plagued this era. (Free Comic Book Day 2023: Spider-Man/Venom v1 #1) Coming online, Flexo was first summoned to rescue his creators when they were robbed off a radium sample and tracked it to a lab operated by the mad scientist Dr. Murdo who intended to use it to create a death ray. (Mystic Comics v1 #1) Confronting Murdo's henchmen, Flexo was shot and went berserk leading to him devouring his attackers. In the aftermath, the Williams brothers were interviewed by a reporter from Mystic Comics who looked to publish the exploits of heroic figures of the time. Joshua Williams claimed that Flexo was a robot built of a malleable rubber-like material and was operated by a remote control. He came to ignore Joel's attempts to clarify upon his statements. During the interview, Joshua came to recount Flexo's rescue of them when the reporter asked what happened to Dr. Murdo. (Free Comic Book Day 2023: Spider-Man/Venom v1 #1) The brothers said that Flexo had knocked out Murdo and his gang by using a non-lethal 'secret gas' after which he destroyed the villains equipment. (Mystic Comics v1 #1) Josh Williams by this point was eager to become famous and expressed an interest in deploying Flexo to fight on the frontlines in World War II. His brother Joel though was concerned about what would happen to their creation after their deaths and how Flexo would react to someone else attempting to order him.
