Garlemald is a nation that features in Final Fantasy XIV.

History

Garlemald was a land located in the frozen plains of northern Ilsabard in the world of Hydaelyn.

Around 50 years ago, Garlemald was a small, remote nation which held little more than a fraction of the northlands.

In time, the Garlean Empire came to control the majority of the northern and eastern regions of the enormous landmass of the three continents. As it expanded, it began a policy of drafting and conscripting in its conquered lands.

The symbol of Garlemald was a chain in abstract design that symbolized the value the native sons and daughters of Garlemald hold dear namely tight unity amongst their small number. In similar fashion, the crimson central link represented all those who have perished in the name of the Garlean people. Garlemald's motto was noted to be: Nos summus manus, Nos sumus deus (Translation: We are the Hand, We are the God).

Religion was banned in the time of the Empire as it was see as a barbarian practice that all too often resulted in the summoning of primals.

Due to its technological advancement, the Garlean military was among the most powerful forces in all of Hydaelyn.

It was the invention of the Ceruleum Engine that ushered a golden age for Garlemald. This resulted in a change in their society as technology began to advance for the empire. The resultant magitek revolution advanced Garlean industry greatly and allowed the nation to produce goods in vast numbers through machina.
