Alec Rois

DC

Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Decades before coming to work as a theoretical tech specialist for a multinational military tech corporation, the man known as Alec Rois was a gifted operative of the Central Intelligence Agency who specialized in advanced interrogations and mental manipulation in the service of the U.S. Government. Unbeknownst to his superiors at the time however, Rois was a charter member pertaining to a great many scandalous ties to secret cabals both within and beyond the United States. (Captain Atom v2 #27) One particular band was called The Green Elite, an army-based drug smuggling ring run straight out of the U.S. military and East Asia. He was the dirty works specialist working under General Eiling who, along with his enforcer, Rako, would oversee the day to day trade coupled with efficiency or compliance of its workers and members. Whenever one of their own needed to be clipped to protect the other members Rois would dispatch his attack dog to stealthily monitor, and when the need arisen, eliminate the dissenter from their midst while making it look like an accident. (Captain Atom v2 #28) One such bit of work was what lead to the Air Force's Captain Nathaniel Adams being court-martialed and sentenced life imprisonment for the murder of a commanding officer; General Lemar, one of the underbosses heading Green Elite's contraband running trade. An event which served to kickstarting his transformation by the Captain Atom Project. (Captain Atom v2 #1)

Alec had feigned the intention of selling his device under government contract for military applications, in truth his real desire was to withhold the technology for his own nefarious purposes. Due to the stress suffered from representing his groundbreaking invention, Rois suffered a mental collapse and became involved with a fanatical fringe cult which hailed him as its dark messiah who would bring about a new world order. Alec Rois, believing that the Stealthray was his own personal creation, refused to acknowledge Lockleed's ownership of the device and was eventually terminated as an employee by the CEO Martin Lockleed. Hungering for revenge against his former employer Rois donned a white costume and cape, all modified using gadgetry of his own design. Fully embracing his role as the mystery cultists' apostle, he became their leader under the pseudonym, the Faceless One, in order to steal back the Stealthray prototype. (Captain Atom v2 #14)

Overview

Personality and attributes

Powers and abilities

The Ghost belonged to the human race, which naturally granted him the baseline biological traits of standard human physical density, versatile bipedal mobility, and standard human physical stamina. His baseline anatomy meant he possessed zero innate organic superhuman strength, natural flight, or element manipulation capabilities in his basic state, leaving his physical frame entirely bound by ordinary human vulnerabilities and biological fatigue. However, due to his intense childhood isolation and absolute devotion to his scientific studies, he possessed a genius-level intellect and advanced mastery over physics that allowed him to conceptually design and program experimental quantum devices completely far ahead of his time. (Captain Atom v1 #82)

He had advanced, high-tech engineering and miniaturization skills that allowed him to successfully integrate an experimental teleportation apparatus directly into his criminal gear. He demonstrated the technical capability to sew miniature versions of his functional teleportation machine directly into the palms of his specialized costume gloves. This mechanical execution provided him with the immediate, handheld capability to trigger precise dimensional jumps at will, enabling him to instantly bypass physical security barriers, infiltrate heavily fortified vaults, and completely outmaneuver ordinary law enforcement patrols. (Captain Atom v1 #82)

Getting plunged into the Quantum Field had converted Rois' physical being into that of living Quantum Energy, similarly to Captain Atom. Unlike the atomic hero however The Faceless One is not tethered to the alien energy source via the Dilustel extracted from the Silver Shield, but is a free formed consciousness who is more dependent on his connection to it to keep alive. Akin to Atom and Major Force; Ghost can absorb, project and manipulate infinite amounts of energy for an infinite amount of purposes limited solely by his willpower and imagination. (Captain Atom v2 #23)
