Goblin King (Norman Osborn)

Norman Osborn after awakening from his coma came to leave his hospital bed where he went underground and resumed his Green Goblin persona. Whilst there, he began to gather people that were inspired by him along with criminals and others where he offered them shelter as he formed the Goblin Nation with himself as its leader as the Goblin King. From the shadows, he began to cultivate a power base as he prepared to bring about the downfall of Spider-Man. (Superior Spider-Man v1 #10) Among the first recruits he gathered were some children that had been working for the Vulture who had been defeated by the Superior Spider-Man. In the aftermath, the Goblin King approached the children and told the group that he will be the one that crushes Superior Spider-Man. (Superior Spider-Man v1 #4)
With his army gathered, Osborn came to announce himself as being the Goblin King. (Superior Spider-Man v1 #10)
Goblin King (Phil Urich)

Phil Urich came to fall into a life of crime where he began the Hobgoblin until his double life was exposed forcing him to go on the run. He was given shelter by the Goblin Nation and renamed the Goblin Knight where he was forced to work for the Goblin King Norman Osborn. This was until Osborn was ultimately defeated by Spider-Man with Urich managing to escape capture by the authorities. (Superior Spider-Man v1 #31) In the aftermath, Phil came to take the mantle of Goblin King for himself and headed the Goblin Nation that remained as one of the criminal factions within the city. - The concept of the Goblin King was created by Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman where it made its first appearance in Superior Spider-Man v1 #47 (May, 2013).
Alternate Versions
- In Avataars: Covenant of the Shield v1 #2 (2000), an alternate version of the Goblin King appeared as an inhabitant of Eurth. The Goblin King and his Six Most Sinister, got in a fight with the Champions of the Realm when they attempted to obtain a toll for entry into the Webwood Forest.
In other media
Television
- In Ultimate Spider-Man, the Goblin King appeared in the setting of the animated television series in the episode "Nightmare on Christmas" where hewas voiced by Steven Weber. This version was Norman Osborn who had become the Green Goblin and wore medieval armour that had ram-like horns. In an alternate reality which is actually Nightmare's illusion, he ruled New York at Oscorp with his own Spider-Soldier army as personal enforcers and 'trophies' after having defeated and killed most of the Earth's heroes: Iron Man's armor, Black Widow's gauntlets, Captain America's shield, Falcon's wings and Thor's hammer. The Goblin King fought Spider-Man who defeated him in an intense battle.
- In Spider-Man, the Goblin King appeared in the setting of the 2017 animated television series. It was an alias taken by Adrian Toomes after he took control of the Goblin Nation and began operating in a Goblin costume.
