History

Gokadoin House (御門院家, Gokadoin-ne; Literally meaning "Emperor Institute")

The Gokadoin House operated as a lineage of Onmyoji that sought to achieve immortality and maintain total control over both human and yokai populations. In their initial appearance, the family members gathered to orchestrate a nationwide 'purification' campaign, utilizing Shikigami such as the Orochi to target and eliminate yokai across various regions of Japan. They mobilized their forces to protect the descent of their ancestor, Abe no Seimei, and worked to dismantle the influence of the Nura Clan by attacking their allies and territorial strongholds. During these early maneuvers, representatives of the house monitored the movements of Nura Rikuo and his companions as they travelled toward Mount Osore, preparing for a large-scale confrontation to assert their dominance. The organization demonstrated their influence by manipulating political and spiritual structures behind the scenes, ensuring that their vision of a world purged of 'impurity' remained the primary objective. By deploying specialized combatants and powerful occult techniques, the Gokadoin House successfully initiated a conflict that forced various yokai clans into a defensive struggle for survival.

Overview

In appearance, the Gokadoin House were a prestigious and ancient lineage of elite Onmyoji who functioned as a highly disciplined, multi-generational secret society. The group operated with an extreme degree of formality and rigid traditionalism, organized into a hierarchical structure of branch families that each served a specific role under the authority of their resurrected ancestor. Their primary goals and objectives were the complete purification of the world through the systematic extermination of 'impure' yokai and the establishment of a new order ruled by their bloodline. They acted with the intent of achieving eternal life for their members through forbidden occult practices and the manipulation of life force, seeking to consolidate spiritual and political power over Japan. Regarding their clothing and costumes, the members wore elaborate, traditional Heian-period garments that emphasized their noble status and historical roots. This included layered silk robes, such as karaginu and hakama, often adorned with intricate patterns and the family's crest. They frequently wore tall, formal eboshi hats and carried specialized ritual tools, such as folding fans or wooden shaku, which served as conduits for their spiritual techniques. The attire was uniform in its adherence to classical aesthetics, symbolizing their rejection of modern influences and their commitment to the ancestral legacy of Abe no Seimei.

The members of the Gokadoin House demonstrated advanced mastery over Onmyodo and the manipulation of spiritual energy during their initial operations. The personnel exhibited the ability to summon and command high-level Shikigami, ranging from massive serpentine entities used for heavy destructive force to smaller, specialized spirits for reconnaissance and targeted assassinations. Their offensive capabilities included the casting of powerful barriers and offensive spells that could disintegrate yokai upon contact or neutralize their inherent supernatural abilities. Physically, the members displayed extended lifespans and unnatural resilience achieved through the "Abe-no-Seimei" technique of immortality, which involved the continuous cycling of life force to prevent aging and physical decay. Some individuals utilized divination and spiritual tracking to monitor the movements of adversaries across great distances, while others demonstrated the capacity to manipulate the environment, such as controlling weather patterns or generating spiritual fire. Additionally, the group possessed the specialized knowledge required to perform complex rituals that could purge entire areas of spiritual "impurities," effectively erasing the presence of supernatural beings from the landscape. This combination of summoning mastery, ritualistic expertise, and prolonged physical vitality allowed the house to exert absolute control over spiritual conflicts.
