The Golden Child is a character that features the movie The Golden Child.

History

Every thousand generations, a "Gompen Trama", or "Golden Child" is born. These divine children are perfect and pure souls who bring to mankind a spiritual gift that will advance them toward enlightenment and help to save them from themselves. The Children are each the embodiment of a spiritual truth; and each child is challenged by the forces of evil. If the child survives, the spiritual truth they embody becomes a fully integrated aspect of mankind's spiritual nature. If the forces of evil kill the Golden Child, the spiritual truth they embody is lost and mankind descends further into darkness.
Each Golden Child is a perfect and pure soul. There enlightened state gives them special gifts. Nothing of this Earth can harm them. They can cause the best of any person they touch to come to the surface, filling their hearts with goodness. They can see into the nature of a person, project themselves astrally, and can influence animals. They can sustain themselves on a minuscule amount of pure food. They can cause objects to move via psychokinesis, and can bring the recently deceased back to life as long as the sun shines on the body from the day of their death.
The forces of evil seek to destroy the Golden Child soon after they come to awareness of their nature. Since the Golden Child cannot be harmed in their perfect state, they must first be corrupted. Surrounding the Golden Child with evil, both physically and spiritually (such as with evil chants, symbols, and objects), prevents them from using their powers. Starving the Golden Child and then tricking them into eating food tainted with human blood has been tried in the past, but these efforts may also include inducing the Golden Child into using its powers in a manner that is self-serving, or debasing themselves in some other fashion. As the Golden Child cannot be harmed by anything of this Earth in their pure state, another tactic of the forces of evil was to bring to this world a weapon that was not of Earth. The second Golden Child, the "Bearer of Justice", was killed with the Ajanti Dagger, a dagger created from materials not of Earth. Even this method has its limits, as the Golden Child can only be killed at night, when evil is strongest.
Because of their pure nature, they cannot defend themselves directly, thus each Golden Child is given a champion, a person who's destiny it is to protect the Golden Child from the forces of evil. This champion often represents both the ideal and flawed nature of mankind at the time the Golden Child is manifest. In time, the spiritually enlightened of mankind have organized to detect and protect the manifestations of the Golden Children. These organizations are often spiritually focused, such as the Tibetan Monks and the Neuchung Oracle who predicted the manifestation of the modern Golden Child 400 years before his arrival. These organizations assist the Chosen One in defending the Golden Child.
The modern manifestation of the Golden Child is the "Bringer of Compassion". If the forces of evil were successful in killing this Golden Child, compassion would cease to be an aspect of man's nature, and the world would become a Hell. The sorcerer, Sardo Numpsa, became the avatar of the forces of evil, marshaling the agents of evil to capture the Golden Child from his dwelling in Tibet in the hopes of corrupting and ultimately killing him. The Chosen One was an American of the "City of Angels" (as predicted). Chandler Jarell, the reluctant Chosen One, was aided by Kee Nang (daughter of the High Priest of the Secret Repository at Palkor Sin), Kala (a dragon-hybrid and librarian of the Secret Repository), and others. The Chosen One successfully retrieved the Ajanti Dagger from its hiding place in Palkor Sin, rescued the Golden Child, and killed Sardo Numpsa, defeating evil and ensuring that the Bringer of Compassion furthered the enlightenment of mankind.

Background

The Golden Child did not live for his own sake but for the sake of mankind.
The number of manifestations of the Golden Child is known, but only the second, the Bearer of Justice, was revealed to the modern Chosen One. He was not told which manifestation was the modern Golden Child, the Bearer of Compassion.
It is clear that other manifestations of the Golden Child have been lost, making mankind's place on the path toward enlightenment tenuous at best.
