He then made his way to El Passo as he acted on behalf of his master. (Blue Beetle v9 #3) Cull arrived at the clinic of Bianca Reyes where he transformed after storming inside. He then grabbed onto his quarry but faced interference by the superpowered Posse. They tried to take take Bianca to safety but Mordecai continued to pursue her into the city. His actions drew the attention of the Blue Beetle who immediately attacked Cull. However, Mordecai's magic managed to trap the hero within a stasis spell. He then proceeded to use his magic to rip the Scarab from Blue Beetle's back. In the midst of the process, he was then attacked by the Posse. This distracted Cull long enough to free Blue Beetle who in a rage over the attack on Biana Reyes unleashed a powerful attack that injured Mordecai. Before he could counterattack, Cull's master intervened where he teleported his apprentice away from the scene. (Blue Beetle v9 #5)

At his masters tomb, he vowed to his master that he would not fail and present the scarab to him. It was then that the Blue Beetle arrived at the scene seeking to stop Cull. In a rage, Jaime charged the villain but Mordecai managed to easily evade the attack. He then proceeded to use his magic to take Reyes soul from his body. It was then that Mordecai's master was nearly freed where he stated that Cull would be the sacrifice for his freedom. Green Beetle then begged his master to spare him as he said he had been forgiven. His desperation at pleasing his master meant that he did not notice that the Blue Beetle's body had rise in a more armored form. Confused, Cull was attacked and badly beaten as a result as he did not realise that the scarab had taken control of Jaime Reyes body. Nearly killed, Cull was saved by the intervention of Doctor Fate who stopped the Blue Beetle. (Blue Beetle v9 #6)

Green Beetle (Nitida)

Overview

Mordecai Cull was a magic user empowered his master who could manifest a green armored form. (Blue Beetle v9 #5) With his magic, he could conceal his armored form and show his human form in public. It was shown that anyone that collided with him could risk being killed by his magic. This was done so in an indirect manner where the affected party simply collapsed and bled from all over their body. (Blue Beetle v9 #6) He could create magical constructs in the form of snakes that were able to ensare a person and drag them into the air. This was described as being part of a stasis spell that left his victims mute. Using his powers, he could also phase through walls or create doorways to teleport between locations. (Blue Beetle v9 #5)

Notes

  • The concept of the Green Beetle was created by Paul Giacoppo where it debuted in the Young Justice animated television series.
  • It was later introduced into the comics through DC Rebirth in the form of Mordecai Cull who was created by Keith Giffen and Scott Kolins and made his first appearance in Blue Beetle v9 #3 (January, 2017).
  • During Infinite Frontier, the character of Nitida appeared adopting the name where she was created by Josh Trujillo and Adrián Gutiérrez and made her first appearance in Blue Beetle: Graduation Day v1 #3 (March, 2023).

  • In Young Justice, the Green Beetle first appeared in the setting of the animated television series starting from the second season episode "True Colors" where he was voiced by actor Phil LaMarr. B'arzz O'oomm
