Biography

The Green Man

While on patrol, the Green Lantern came across an ancient caravan of 'space gypsies'. The caravan was threatened by a hole between the anti-matter universe and ours. Despite the threat, the space gypsies refused the Green Lantern's aid. In accordance with the ways of their ancestors, no one outside of the caravan was allowed to aid them. They believed the gods had placed the evil in their ancient path and they must meet it bravely and alone. In order to help the caravan, the Green Lantern gave Gretti a power ring. The young man was arrogant and impatient, but after the Green Lantern showed him what to do, Gretti closed the hole and saved his people. They returned to the caravan, with the young man regarded as a hero. The Green Lantern of Uxor left Gretti under the watchful eye of his grandmother. (Green Lantern v2 #164)

Against his masters edict, the Green Lantern came to defy the ban over interfering in the affairs of the Vega Sector. (Omega Men v1 #26)

The Green Man later reappeared alive without explanation as the partner of the robot Stel, the Green Lantern of the planet Grenda, in Sector 3009. Green Man was one of the Lanterns who participated in the defense of Oa against the onslaught of Superboy-Prime. (Infinite Crisis v1 #7)

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, the Green Man is a distinctly alien figure, instantly recognizable by his vibrant, plant-like green skin and unique physiology. He possesses a broad, flat, and rounded head with no discernible nose and a small, lipless mouth. His eyes are large and almond-shaped with dark pupils, set in deep sockets that give him a perpetually contemplative or serene expression. His body is relatively short and somewhat stocky, with elongated arms and three-fingered hands, which end in broad, flat digits suggestive of amphibious or plant-like adaptation. His limbs appear muscular yet lithe, with subtle fibrous lines running across his skin, implying internal vascular structures not unlike sap veins in vegetation. He wears the standard uniform of the Green Lantern Corps—a black bodysuit with a green torso and shoulders, featuring the white Green Lantern insignia prominently across his chest. The suit appears to accommodate his unusual body shape, with sleeves that taper around his long forearms and loose-fitting legs that end above his webbed feet. (Green Lantern Corps v1 #208) On account of his appearance, he was given the name of the Green Man by others. (Green Lantern v2 #164)

Powers and abilities

He also exhibits a calm and calculating demeanor, reflective of high intelligence and discipline. In interactions with his fellow Corps members, Green Man maintains a composed and precise manner of speech, showing no sign of impulsiveness. His ability to calmly assess threats and deploy his ring’s abilities tactically suggests a strong sense of duty and developed combat training. (Green Lantern Corps v1 #208)

As a native of the planet Uxor, Green Man brings with him the physiological benefits of his species, which appear to include enhanced durability, resilience in various atmospheres, and a resistance to physical injury. His alien biology allows him to function effectively alongside a variety of other species without notable discomfort, indicating either adaptability or a unique metabolism compatible with multiple environments. (Green Lantern Corps v1 #208)

As a Green Lantern, he was provided a Power Ring that was able to achieve any feat that he could conceive of with his mind. With its power, he could travel through space, create constructs, generate protective force fields and fire energy beams from it. (Green Lantern v2 #164)

It was shown that he was able to temporarily empowering another giving them a power ring similar to his own for a short amount of time. When created, it allowed the other wearer to manifest a Green Lantern uniform and use a ring along with all its capabilities. It was said that only one who was fearless and strong could receive this power. (Green Lantern v2 #164)

The Green Man was a member of the Green Lantern Corps and thus followed the orders of the Guardians of the Universe. (Green Lantern v2 #164)
