Biography

Original

Gwendolyn Tennyson

Her powers and abilities were revealed to be of alien descent; her paternal grandmother, Verdona, is an energy being known as an Anodite; from the distant planet Anodyne, and surprisingly, she seems to be the only human descendant who inherited Verdona's powers. Verdona told Gwen that what she and others originally thought of as magic was actually the control of mana, a substance of magic-making Anodites; a magic-wielding race. Verdona offered to take Gwen to her home planet and train her in the immense mystical and magical ways of the Anodites, but Gwen preferred to remain on Earth with her friends and family. She disliked being called an 'energy being', referring to her Anodite heritage.

During the summer road trip where she traveled with her grandfather Max and her cousin Ben, Gwen Tennyson first became involved in extraordinary events after Ben discovered the Omnitrix. When the device bonded to Ben’s wrist and allowed him to transform into alien forms, Gwen was immediately skeptical of his recklessness and voiced her concerns. She participated in the unfolding conflict when a massive alien drone began tracking them, staying close to Max while warning Ben against charging headlong into danger. Gwen’s actions consisted of shouting warnings when enemies closed in, helping Max move bystanders out of harm’s way, and ensuring their RV remained functional as a mobile base. She provided critical support during Ben’s first chaotic battles, even though she lacked superhuman powers herself, and became established as a constant participant in their struggles from that point forward.

When the group traveled to Washington, D.C., Gwen accompanied Max and Ben as they encountered Dr. Animo, who unleashed mutant creatures created from prehistoric fossils. Gwen actively contributed by aiding Max in steering civilians to safety, distracting attacking creatures, and using her wits to keep Ben aware of incoming threats. She frequently challenged Ben’s overconfidence, reminding him of his limits as he cycled between alien forms that were not always suited for the battles at hand. Gwen worked tactically to assist her family despite being unarmed, such as throwing objects to disrupt enemies and calling out weaknesses she observed in Animo’s beasts. While Ben engaged directly in combat, Gwen ensured that their group could maneuver through the chaos without being overwhelmed, her quick actions keeping the fight manageable until Animo was finally defeated.

On their next stop in Florida, Gwen remained deeply engaged in the conflict despite her frustration with Ben’s immaturity. When Max appeared to settle into a quieter lifestyle, Gwen grew suspicious of the sudden calm and voiced her concerns before new threats quickly confirmed her instincts. During these encounters she actively supported Max, moving alongside him to shield civilians and arguing with Ben when his impulses endangered their safety. Gwen’s activities showed her increasing willingness to take responsibility in high-pressure circumstances, such as identifying escape routes when enemies cornered them and making sure that the team’s equipment and supplies were secured during sudden attacks. Though physically vulnerable compared to the enemies they faced, Gwen’s insistence on preparation and her ability to think ahead allowed her family to adapt to unexpected developments in their struggle.

When the family came under attack by interstellar mercenaries sent to capture Ben, Gwen stepped into an even more active role. She worked with Max to set up traps around their environment, using her ingenuity to create diversions that delayed their enemies long enough for Ben to regroup and transform again. Gwen’s observations were crucial in spotting ambushes and warning both Ben and Max before they were overwhelmed, often placing herself at risk by drawing attention away from her cousin during his most vulnerable moments. Her actions in this conflict demonstrated that she was not merely a bystander but a core member of the group, willing to intervene against dangerous alien opponents despite her lack of powers. By coordinating with Max, she created opportunities that directly contributed to Ben’s victories and the family’s survival during this encounter.

Gwen acquired the magical Charms of Bezel, which granted her enhanced abilities. Using these artifacts, she created protective shields, projected energy blasts, and manipulated luck to her advantage. She assumed the superhero identity of Lucky Girl, donning a costume to battle crime in Bellwood. Gwen used her newfound powers to thwart a group of criminals attempting to rob a museum and later fought against the sorcerer Hex, who sought the charms for himself. During the confrontation, she engaged Hex directly, blocking his spells with magical barriers and counterattacking with bursts of energy. Though Hex ultimately reclaimed the artifacts, Gwen proved her willingness to fight on equal terms with superpowered foes.

Charmcaster told Gwen that she possessed a magical aura which allowed her to cast spells when she had switched bodies with Gwen. Gwen came to steal Charmcaster's spell book and started practicing magic, with her first successful spell was when she commanded water to rise to stop a couple escaping convicts from swimming away.

Gwen’s abilities expanded when she began tapping into her natural aptitude for magic and mana manipulation. She fought alongside Ben and Max against the villainous group known as the Negative 10, using magical constructs to block gunfire and disarm enemies. Gwen coordinated with Ben by setting up barriers to trap foes while he attacked in alien form. When Dr. Animo unleashed mutated animals, Gwen blasted them with concentrated mana bursts, helping to repel the assault. Her active role in combat highlighted how she had developed from a resourceful but powerless ally into a frontline fighter capable of standing against major threats.

When Kevin was threatened by a Highbreed Commander, she released her dormant innermost Anodite self for the first time, and easily defeated the commander with an exceedingly strong powerful burst of pure magenta-pink glowing energy. She was almost overwhelmed by her own power and wanted to defeat the Highbreed all on her own before Kevin snapped her out of it by saying "I can't lose you".

Kevin appeared to be avoiding her because he was ashamed of his recent mutation due to accidentally absorbing a massive feedback pulse as a result of trying to hack the Omnitrix. She was unaffected by the blast because she put an energy shield around herself. Kevin gave her a locket of the two of them when he was in his human form, asking her to remember him as he was. Gwen said she didn't care what he looks like, and he replied "Maybe not. But I do."

Zombozo and other villains, including Vulkanus and Charmcaster, teamed up to take revenge on the Tennysons and company, and kidnapped Ben's mother Sandra. Enraged, Gwen released her dormant, inner Anodite. Whilst Zombozo trembled with fear, Gwen began to grow to a huge height, promising that if one of his teammates even bumped into their families on the street, she would come for them. Petrified, Zombozo screamed off-screen and Gwen saved Sandra. When Kevin asked what happened to Zombozo, she simply replied "We came to an understanding" whilst smiling.

The group went to the planet Piscciss to help Magister Pyke stop Aggregor. Gwen is caught by a squid-like creature, but Kevin revealed that he installed neuro-shock pulsers which can shoot lightning allowing Gwen to get free. When they reach the nucleus of the planet Piscciss an earthquake occurs, Gwen put an energy shield around them but failed to protect Magister Pyke, so she stays with him while Kevin and Ben go after the second part of the Map of Infinity. However, Aggregor arrived first and fled with the second part of the Map of Infinity after defeating Ben and Kevin. When the planet begins to crumble Ben as Goop saves the planet, re-constructing the lost water particles using Goop's artificial Gravity immobiliser. When Ben apparently dies, Gwen is devastated, but she sees that he survived, she feels immediate relief. At the end of the episode, Gwen consoled Kevin for having to leave the Little Fish in Piscciss.

Gwen relied on Charmcaster to help her, Ben and Kevin survive traveling through Legerdomain to find the next piece of the Map of Infinity, the Alpha Rune. Along the way, she learned of Charmcaster's background and came to sympathize with her nemesis.

She later tries out for her driver's license, earning it in the end.

It was shown that Gwen gets very jealous when Jennifer Nocturne starts flirting with Kevin after he saved her life. And Kevin doesn't seem to mind. Kevin also protected Jennifer a lot, over the course of the episode. For example; When Overlord shot an energy blast at them Kevin put his arms around Jennifer to protect her from the energy beam, even though Gwen put up a magenta-pink shield around them. Gwen eventually lost her temper and threatened Jennifer that she would, "peel her like a grape" if she made another move on Kevin.

Later, Gwen travelled with Ben and Kevin to stop Aggregor from absorbing a newborn Celestialsapien's powers. Young Ben came along as Ben accidentally fell into the Chronal Randomization Barrier. Gwen, Kevin, and even Ben became annoyed with Young Ben. However, everyone eventually understood why Young Ben is so arrogant and cocky. He explained that, when dealing with the pressure and the danger that could kill somebody, he tends to joke around so he can be prepared to face anything. Unfortunately, everyone was easily defeated by Aggregor, who seemed to have won, but Kevin absorbed the immense energy of the Ultimatrix as a last resort, defeating him but becoming insane in the process.

Ben and Gwen are shown to be having difficulties. The two argue about Kevin while trying to locate a ship. On the way, they stumble upon Argit, who needed a place to hide from Kevin. They travel to the Plumber's Academy in the Rust Bucket 3 only to be attacked by Kevin. They barely succeeded in defeating him, and Gwen said she turned the air lock on to send Kevin falling because she understood he would kill them if he had the chance. After Argit preformed his orders, Kevin attacks the Plumber's Academy. Ben uses Ultimate Humungousaur to deal with the nuclear bomb while Kevin relentlessly attacked Argit. Gwen tells him to stop and to give himself up! But he sends her to the ground. Gwen remains there crying as Kevin spares her from his fatal blow, stating that she was only spared because of what she used to mean to him. Ben returns and the two have a conversation, Gwen says that they could still help Kevin, Ben replies that they cannot.

Gwen was more determined than ever to save Kevin. Ben disagreed with Gwen, opting to kill him now rather than a last resort. Gwen went to Max, hoping he would disagree about killing Kevin, but her grandfather confirmed that killing Kevin was the right decision. He also told Gwen that if she disagreed, she should leave Ben to do it and not get in the way. Gwen left, disappointed and angry, ready to take desperate measures as she went to Michael Morningstar for help. Meanwhile, Ben went off looking for Kevin, who was relentlessly going after anyone he thought had betrayed him. Gwen stopped Ben from harming Vulkanus, accompanied by Michael. Ben was infuriated by Gwen's alliance, but she made a deal with Ben, saying that if her plan did not work, she would not bother him anymore. Gwen also admitted that she promised Michael enough manna in return for his help that would keep him at full strength and power for one year, furthering Ben's anger toward her. Michael explained that he saved a part of the Dominus Librium, which could be used to turn Kevin back to normal. However, the machines and energy required to power it was only available at Los Soledad. In order to lead Kevin there, they needed bait. Gwen suggested herself. Gwen went to Total Zone and confronted Kevin. He admitted that he had been avoiding her so he would not absorb her energy, which he was desperately hungry for. They fought intensely, and Gwen tried talking some sense into Kevin. Unfortunately, this did not work, and Kevin grabbed a hold of Gwen and absorbed both her magical and Anodite powers, making her scream in pain. Gwen retaliated with a blast and escaped.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Gwen Tennyson was seemingly a human female with green eyes and short red hair held by a blue hairclip and wore sapphire earrings, an elbow-length blue raglan shirt with a cat logo, white capri pants, and white sneakers with dark blue stripes without socks. After initially learning magic, she made her own attempt at being a superhero where she wore a mask and went by the name of Lucky Girl.

Gwen’s personality was established as sharp, outspoken, and highly intelligent, marked by her constant verbal sparring with Ben. She demonstrated a quick wit and often criticized Ben’s rash and impulsive behavior, but beneath her sarcasm she consistently showed deep concern for both him and Max. She valued order, responsibility, and careful planning, frequently becoming frustrated when Ben disregarded caution. Her interactions revealed a balance of maturity and youthful stubbornness, highlighting her as a stabilizing force within the group despite her occasional hot temper.

In personality, Gwen was intelligent, rational, and often sarcastic, frequently clashing with Ben due to his impulsiveness. She acted as the voice of reason within the trio, grounding both Ben and Grandpa Max when tensions rose. Her natural compassion balanced her sharp wit, as she was quick to help civilians and protect her family. While sometimes stubborn, she consistently displayed courage and adaptability, growing into a determined hero who valued teamwork even when disagreeing with Ben’s methods.

From a young age, she was shown as being intelligent, sassy and mature girl but was usually stubborn and smart-mouthed when it came to talking with Ben.

Her quick thinking and good instincts gave her an edge in dealing with dangerous situations.

As she got older, she became even more mature, caring and sympathetic. Her affection towards her cousin Ben became clearer as well.

Powers and abilities

Gwen Tennyson was a baseline human with no superhuman physiology in her earliest appearances. Her physical traits were consistent with an ordinary ten-year-old, leaving her reliant on agility, reflexes, and intelligence rather than raw strength in dangerous situations. Her natural quick thinking and problem-solving skills allowed her to contribute meaningfully despite lacking alien technology or powers. These qualities, combined with her resilience and resourcefulness, enabled her to stand alongside Ben and Max during their earliest battles against alien threats.

In powers, Gwen originally relied on intelligence, martial arts training, and improvisation, but her exposure to the Charms of Bezel revealed her affinity for magic. Over time, she tapped into her inherent Anodite heritage, granting her advanced mana manipulation. She created energy shields, force blasts, and light constructs, and she demonstrated teleportation and healing abilities in later series. When channeling her full Anodite form, Gwen wielded vast energy-based powers, capable of flight, energy projection, and large-scale manipulation of magical forces. Despite these advancements, she often preferred careful control of her abilities to avoid collateral damage.

Gwen's magical powers were of alien descent from her grandmother Verdona, a member of a free-spirited alien race of pure energy beings known as Anodites, from the planet Anodyne. Though she technically did not inherit these powers, she shares a 'knack' for mana manipulation, referred to by Verdona as 'the spark'.

At first, she became aware of her latent knack for magic that allowed her to handle multiple magical artifacts.

She later came to progress by taking Charmcaster’s small spellbook allowing her to cast spells and better practice magic.

Gwen was later able to assume the energy-based form of an Anodite. In this form, she had dark purple in color, with long glowing pink/white hair. In this form, she was capable of growing in stature, flight, and immortality, as well as her abilities being enhanced exponentially.
