Biography
Hector Chang
Chang operated as an intellectually curious high school student in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he frequently found himself subjected to targeted harassment by local school bullies. His ordinary, isolated life was abruptly altered when he was approached by Maddie Warner, the widow of the assassinated superhero Captain Dynamo, who exposed his hidden lineage as the late hero’s illegitimate biological son. Despite his initial skepticism, Hector Chang joined four newly discovered half-siblings at a secret base in Tower City, where Maddie Warner exposed the assembled teenagers to a localized dose of the unique radiation that had powered their father, successfully unlocking Hector Chang's latent genetic abilities. Inheriting Captain Dynamo's complete suite of vision-based powers—including laser, X-ray, and telescopic sight—he adopted the superhero codename Visionary and donned a specialized blue and red uniform to defend Tower City alongside his estranged family. One month into their training, Hector Chang deployed on his very first official field mission to intercept a violent, heavily armed attack executed by a paramilitary organization known as The Veil. Although the untrained teenage unit successfully engaged the hostile forces, Hector Chang's lack of tactical experience left him severely exposed during the chaotic combat fracas, resulting in his physical abduction by the enemy. He was forcefully transported to a hidden stronghold, where he was bound and injected with an aggressive truth serum to facilitate an invasive tactical interrogation orchestrated by the organization's leader, The Superior. Afterwards, Hector was deployed alongside his half-siblings on a targeted stakeout in Tower City to confront the reptilian monster Whiptail, an iconic arch-enemy of their late father who had initiated a series of destructive rampages. Recovering his senses just as the beast attempted to violently bite down on his remaining teammate's head, Hector Chang unleashed a sudden, high-powered laser blast from his eyes to strike the monster, forcefully staggering the beast and buying enough time to make it vanish from the immediate perimeter. After assisting his teammate up, Hector Chang returned to their Aquarium headquarters to face a stern, highly critical lecture from Maddie Warner regarding the tactical discipline required to operate as real heroes. While his half-brother Gage Reinhart furiously clashed with their mentor over the severe toll the operation was taking on their civilian lives, Hector Chang quietly withdrew alongside his siblings to rest, completely unaware that his double-life had drawn the active suspicion of government agents from F.L.A.G. who had begun investigating Maddie Warner's ties to the new team.
